Ok I need to add myself I am about 5' and 190+ I am not able to exercise much( I'm in a wheelchair) so most of my weight lose has to come from diet. My biggest problem is that I have quit cooking , I use to cook all the time but the last few years it's all junk food. I need to start with a good daily routine of eating three light meals. And some recipes for fresh home cooked meals. I love crock pot stuff.

Yep. Home cooking with fresh, healthy ingredients is a sure way to lose weight! Brooks, look for a little paperback called "Cook This, Not That." It's part of a series of books that give great (and horrifying!) information about the calorie, fat and salt content of the restaurant foods we love best. This one also gives recipes for versions you can make at home that are much cheaper and much healthier. The recipes are pretty easy, too. www.amazon.com/Cook-This-Awesome-350-Calorie-Meals/dp/1605291471/ref=pd_bxgy_b_text_c

Went to the grocery store this am, and bought all healthy product, but I did stand by the the fresh baked dougnuts just for the smell. mmmmm they smelled soooo good. Maple cream filled. The funny thing is that if I do that or caryy a pack of cokies around the store putting them back before I checkout I dont feel deprived. If I were to buy them I would have buyers remorse, and sure would eat them if they were in my house. The only bad" thing I keep in the house is dark chocolate, and they say it is good for you!

I am ready for this too. I gained 5 lb in 2009 and another in 2010. So I want to lose 10 lb and keep it off forever-I constantly gain and lose the same pounds over and over again. I also start eating unhealthy foods and I know it. Sugar is the root of all evil for me. And health experts are proving how really bad it is for you-I just want to eat fresh healthy wholesome food-to nourish my body and when the body feels good so does the soul. My horse is also motivation to me because I just ride so much better when I am lighter. and I am 5'7" and 148.

So how is everyone doing? The month isn't even half over and I have gained 3 lbs :-( I know it is prob from the swelling, but I'm sooo bummed not being able to work out. I am watching what I eat and keeping my intake to about 1400 calories a day. I don't want to slash calories too much and slow my metabolism. Just whining cause I feel crappy and fat.

Lisa, you probably need to heal from your surgery and just keep your healthy habits going. I bet you do have some gain from fluid/swelling, and you KNOW that is going to go away!

Okay, I'm in. For the first time in my life, I joined WW (the week before Christmas) as I have been the same as Brooks, not cooking and eating junk food. It got to be a pretty bad habit. 5'2" 142# There, I"ve posted my weight online.
WW points system appeals to my competitive nature, although competing with a computer modeling system is rather odd if one were to analyze the concept.
Discovered sushi and soup and very filling and hardly any points.
Yesterday I made this soup:
Turkey stock 3 cups cut up turkey meat 5 cups chopped swiss chard I make my own stock and can it, so if you use other stock, the soup might need some spices. I flavor mine prior to canning. It is delicious!

Yes, soup is great! I do make it from scratch at times but most of the time I just open one of those Amy's Organic soups. Lentils and veggies is my favorite!
Lisa, you need to heal first! Be patient. If you watch what you are eating, you'll be fine!
I just had a food-busy week-end, with 2 dinner invitations... beef bourguignon, almond and Bday cakes...I am NOT weighing myself anytime soon, lol!
Alison a couple years ago I signed up to WW for 3 months and it worked great. I loved their recipes, too. Now I'm doing Sparkpeople, which is similar but free. It's amazing how efficient it is just to enter everything you eat on the site, and see how it compares with your "ideal" calorie intake.

This is a great idea - I'm in! I never had trouble with my weight until a couple years ago, and I've picked up 30 lbs in a year and a half. I actually jump started my weight loss without even meaning to - I just got back from a week camping in Florida, and discovered I lost 5 lbs! For me, I want to give up all pop and unhealthy snacks, and try to cut my portions down. I have a bad habit of eating fast, because I'm always in a hurry, but I'm trying to slow down and eat less. So... 5'7", 160 lbs (Although this morning, I was 159.9, breaking my first goal ) I'd like to lose more than a lb a month, but if that's all I lose, that's okay too - I don't really want to diet, just be more conscious of what I'm putting in my body. If anyone has an iphone or ipod touch, there's a really cool free app that is a calorie/exercise tracker - you can search for different foods and it will tell you the calories in what you've just eaten, and track them. Then when you have everything for the day entered, it will say "If you ate like this every day, you'd weigh *** in 5 weeks." So that's kind of a nice motivator!

I think I've lost two pounds just by giving up potato chips. Oh god how I miss my potato chips.

Ok, I'll bite. I'm 5'9 and 165 on a good day. My downfall: ANYTHING with sugar! lol I'm back on the veggies and meat diet. Yeah me.
Ad, here's an idea to supplant your chip issue. Get some fresh sweet potatoes, slice, add a small amount of olive oil and sea salt and bake in the oven. YUM!

Alison, Im going to try that soup. Looks easy enough even for me.
I agree about recoring what you eat. Itis a pain in the butt, but it is a eye opener, esp when you compare the real cal count, and nutrition to what you think you have eaten.
