LoL what fun! Here's ours... JC Bet I'll Fly came with the barn name Betty, so that's what she's been Heard the rock song "Black Betty," which fits her to a tee She's big, black, and "gets you high!" Nicknamed "Princess Betty" for her wedding march walk down the barn aisle. Acts like an old cow for grooming and tacking, but hot as heck under saddle even at age 22. JC River Gun came with Ricky, and he's been Ricky ever since. Showed him once under "Ricochet" and the announcer BUTCHERED it, so we never did that again Nicknamed Butthead, Grouchy Old Man, Silly, Dork, depends on the day Registered name Romanze, barn name Izzy. Also came that way. She's a big, elegant Trakhener, so they tried to change her name to Isabella. Too long for a barn name! So Izzy she stayed Nicknamed "Queen Isabella" since she's boss mare, "Radar" for her humongous ears, "Moose" for the brand she has. AQHA name Signed Lola, nicknamed Lily I couldn't bring myself to call her Lola...since we already have a barn cat of that name, and my sister's MIL! Plus she's too cute for Lola Nicknamed "LiL" for small size (she's 15.1hh, while the smallest of the rest of the herd is 16.1hh), Goober for playing with her tongue, Silly Girl, Baby Girl (she's only 3yrs old). Lil is the only horse I've named for myself! All others came with their's. Annie we're still trying to figure out who she is. She's a 16yo grey TB mare. I sent her tattoo to the JC, but didn't come back with anything...so I'm going to send pics to see if we can find out a little more of her history! She came as a freebie from a boarding situation. Nicknamed "Duchess Anne" to fit the aristocracy of the rest of our mares

I had a TB who's reg name was 'Crow Bait' , the rescue that I got him from named him 'Chevy' and when I got him I changed it to 'Easy Choice' because he was an easy choice. However, he ended up going back to the rescue and he's known as 'Chevy' again.

I'll play and then you can help me, huh?
When we got Twister, the 12.2 hand Welshie, he didn't have a name.. poor little guy! The day we brought him home, we drove through a tornado and he became Silver Twister.
When I bought Teddy from Sugar Creek, his registration or papers of course weren't with him, and I started calling him Teddy right away - later through tattoo research I found his name was Imperial Canadian ( EEW!)
When we traded for Valley, his name was Prince Valiant, and he knew himself as "Prince" ( yuck again!) so we started calling him Valley and that stuck like glue. When he's a bad boy, he gets called VALIENT-TAY! like a Spanish name and that sounds very appropriate.
This new appy's name is Regals Chainreaction, and his barn name is Meko, which he knows. This critter is DARN smart. He can already put himself into his correct stall without help..Teddy still can't find his own stall. haha
So we have all kinds of fun ideas for a show name for Meko - my favorite is "Made Ya Look" and Caroline's favorite is "Dippin' Dots" haha I also like Idle Dice, or No Dice because his spots remind me of dice.

The dark liver baynet's registered name is Squillion, but since he is dark chocolatey and I'm a Seinfeld fan, his name became Basco (George's pin). He knew it immediately, and it fits him.
The Wakerdoodle's registered name is WakiNomad. His trainer on the track called him Waki, but that just didn't fit him as he is about the furthest thing from Waki. I have also watched a bit too much Project Runway and there was a guy on there that said "Wakerdoodle" and it stuck. It easily rolls off of the tonge too.
The QH that I have for my mom is registered as Skippa Hot Rodder Pep. Yeah, try saying that real fast. He was called Hot Rod at the lesson barn he came from, but I was opposed to that and decided to rename him Diesel as in built like a big friggin truck..lol. My mother LOVED the name Hot Rod and it stuck. I still call him Diesel sometimes and he's such a QH that he doesn't care what he's called as long as he's not called late to dinner.
I used to ride a QH named Savannah Cowboy and I just loved that name for some reason, but the horse was called Rabbit to my great sadness..lol.

I'm tempted to put this thread in the library when we are done with it here. A great way to know some of our members.

Good luck on Ben! Boring Ben might just morph into Beautiful Ben Boring Ben is indeed beautiful, inside and out! He is coming home on Friday. ;D I am so excited!!! I was thinking about his name and thinking of what name I could use if I ever do a local show with him. I came up with Benevolent, (Ben for short), which means "a disposition toward doing or being good". That suits him well. Then, on a whim, I looked up that jc name, the owner doesn't know his jc name but he is tattooed. Sure enough, Benevolent is a 1990 bay gelding. I wonder...........

So we have all kinds of fun ideas for a show name for Meko - my favorite is "Made Ya Look" and Caroline's favorite is "Dippin' Dots" haha I also like Idle Dice, or No Dice because his spots remind me of dice. There is a TB that shows on my circuit with the name "Made Ya Look"...which fits him in two ways. First, he is a strawberry roan with 4 high whites (unusual in the hunter ring to begin with, and even more unusual in a TB). Second, he is unfortunately rather too forward in the ring, to say the least...many strides are left out...many gasps from onlookers. But I think the name would be great for Meko because he will be equally "visible" in the ring, and I am sure people will keep looking because he is such a good boy.

Connor's JC name (and USEA name) is Constant Sorrow which I happen to love but a lot of people are not quite sure about . He came with the barn name Sorry, which got immediately changed to Connor. Mark's JC name (and USEA name) is Hit And Run which was changed to Hit The Mark by his previous owner (not sabovee, the one she got him from). I actually like his JC name better, but I kept Mark (or Marcus or Marky Mark or Mister Mark) because he knows it. Spy's JC name is Spy N Ocala, which I will keep for his USEA name. He didn't come with a brn name that I knew of, so he was New Guy for awhile until my son decided Spy was a much better name, so Spy it is, which really fits him because he is in your face curious about everything.

Conan (my ISH) came with that name and it is probably one of the most perfect names ever. He is a big goofball with more brute strength then he is even aware of. And of course Tinkerbell, who is 26, came with the name and knows it better then any horse I have .

Picasso, that's the key! If they know their names! It's a bit tricky for them, though, as we humans tend to improvise, don't we? My TB is Edge of the Forest (By Sharp Deal out of Beechwood Maddoc) - but that's his Sunday name. He came with the stable name Edgie - which is what he responds to. When he is naughty (bucking) he is REG-CUT-IT-OUT! Forry is a Belgian Warmblood, an illegal immigrant (I think) who was smuggled over the English Channel. When he first arrived with his previous owner, he was just referred to as 'the foreign horse'. Then Foreigner, now Forry. As my own name (Barbara) means 'Foreigner', I just knew ... Barbarians, the pair of us ..

When Sis bought her first horse she was already named Niaru Tovu, which is a small village somewhere in Africa, where her then owner was doing his military service. Sis thought the name was terrible and was thinking of renaming her Niagara since as a reg. Selle Français it had to start with a N. But everyone made fun of her, saying she was bound to FALL off a lot, with a horse of that name. lol so the name Niaru stuck. She was a good mare, a little hot like I like them, not the bucking type, not spooky, she just didn't like to be ridden by males....ROFL. I think in all the years I rode her, even as a green as grass horse, she never threw me. I must have fallen off once (jumping, my fault, too). My Morgan's registered name was Birchwood Tapestry but everyone at the barn where I got her, called her Trinket, and she knew that name, so I kept it. I kept her reg. name as her show name, because I always had Morgan people come to me at shows and discuss breeding lines/breeders when they heard her name

Ok, I'll play. Splash is just part of her registered name, A Splash of Taste. Rusty's registered name is Tasmanian Prince and they were calling him Taz when we bought him. Bethany thought his spots looked like rust spots (chestnut leopard App) so he quickly became Rusty which fits him much better than Taz. Rubix is a play on his registered name, Ruby's Escort. Bethany didn't want to call him Ruby because she thought that sounded too "girly". She came up with Rubix and it stuck like glue. Joey got named by my son's ex. When he was born, she was there watching him and when he tried to stand the first time, she mentioned that he looked like a baby kangaroo with his long legs, hence "Joey".

Here goes : Argo - Registered name was Skip the Trump and barn name was Dreamer. Didn't much like either one and my daughter was really into watching Xena and her warrior palomino, Argo. Poppy - Registered name is Pop's Lucky Lady so not much of a stretch there And she's pretty as a Poppy. Chocolate - Registered name Condo Star, but he's incredibly sweet and the color of dark chocolate. Fancy - Registered name Young Man's Fancy. Love the name. Lola - Registered name is Driven by Desire, so we just had to call her Lola. Indy - Registered name is Navy Bird. My daughter came up with Indigo from Navy and it became Indy right away. Jasper - My daughter picked it again. Registered name is Liberty Card. We came up with it because he is by Navy Bird and out of Young Man's Fancy, so we figured a young man in the Navy would love a Liberty Card. Minx - Her registered name is Tempestuous Minx. Tempestuous because it was a very stormy night when she was born and Minx because a minx is a type of cat and she has Storm Cat through Navy Bird.

My gelding is a hard to keep weight on, skinny, lanky, boney Thoroughbred....therefore his name is Bones. He's probably gained 200 pounds since I got him 2 years ago...and yet he could still use some more weight. He came with the name. He definitely knows his name and thinks he's all that and a cup of tea.

Bones is a cute name. Makes me think of Dr. McCoy on Star Trek.
