Growing up I my first pony was a blonde sheltland that came with the name Sandy, lol. Then my second pony was a black welsh and well you guessed it..... his name was Blackie, lol. Yeah I know, I know Then came along my first show pony her Show name was Patche Work Lady, Barn name Patches. Yup, she was a paint. My Arabians reg. name was Rashid Santez and we just called him Rashid. My family had many other horses also.... but those were the ones I dealt with the most. Guffaws JC name was Laugh A Little. The rescue said he came with the barn name Laugh. I didnt like that at all, and thought it kinda sounded harsh. So because, I like names that most animals dont have (and I hate human names for animals) I got out my Thesauras to look up other words for Laugh..... a Guffaw is a loud bosterous laugh....It fit him very well, since he had such a goofy personality. Who ever gave him is JC name must have spent some time with him as a youngster. Other names I called him were Guff, Guffers, or Mister. So far Guff has my all time favorite reg and barn name. As for Dottie, her Appaloosa sport horse name is Pik-turesque Nikou. Her mother is out of the Pik line Hanovarians. Anyway, she came with the name Dottie. I tried and tried to come up with other barn names....but it just stuck. She knew it and well..... it fit her ;D . So there you have it.

My horse came from an Argentinian bloodstock group (I think) and his JC name is Mariano Morres, who is a famous tango musician. When my previous trainer found him at his previous "home", he was soooo thin Her husband named him Slim Jim and since everyone knew him by that name by the time I bought him, it stuck. I did not give him a new show name, since I never thought I would be showing him on the A circuit...so that is his show name too. If I could change it now it would be "One of a Kind", which suits him perfectly in every way.

Jax's JC name was Four Fleet Feet. Someone somewhere along the way named him Max, then ended up with a new owner in a new barn and so they changed his name to Jax to avoid confusion. We kept the name Jax, and as far as I know, his new owners have kept it as well.
BooBoo's JC name was Intrepid Air. As a condition of his sale to me, he was gelded (was in a lay up type situation between track and new life), very inhumanely and very unsanitary. He hemorrhaged one night a nearly bled to death. In the end, he had quite the infection and a big "BooBoo". Since "Intrepid" was kind of lame, he became BooBoo. His show name became "What To Do About A BooBoo?".

Kopper T: he came from Bella Grigia and Bright Launch...nothing to warrant "Kopper T" as his name. So I came up with Lincoln after about a week of owning him because he didn't even respond to Kopper. The way I saw it..... He's not copper colored.... But a penny is copper.... And he's tall and lanky like Abraham Lincoln who is ON the copper penny..... So Lincoln it was!!! Linc or Linky for short. Now to only come up with a show name one of these days!!! Ideas are always welcome!

What a fun thread. Kelly, are you in Colorado? Is Drifter one that Einstein had then? I was in love with one that she had for a while. Oz is "Bluebird Royal Heir" The breeders called him, Roy. The dressage trainer called him, Heir. Yuck. He brought a ton of sunshine in my life after going through some tough times. He is my little bluebird of happiness and the way I felt about getting him was like the lyrics from Somewhere Over the Rainbow from Wizard of Oz. My troubles melt like lemon drops la la la So, Oz it is. I hope some day I can do a musical freestyle with him and use this:

Splash - part of her registered name (A Splash of Taste)
Rusty - when we bought him, Bethany said he looked like he had rust spots all over him (leopard app)
Rubix - Registered name Ruby's Escort. Bethany didn't want to call a gelding "ruby".
Joey - when he was born, my son's ex was watching him try to get up for the first time and commented that will all those legs he looked like a baby kangaroo. Hence "Joey". ;D

;D
My horses came with their names.
Edgie is Edge-of-the-Forest. By Sharp Deal out of Beechwood Maddoc.
Forry, bless his little neoprene socks, is a Belgian import who was just tossed out in the field and became known as the Foreigner. When I bought him, I couldn't change it, because my name means 'Foreigner', too!

Was Cypress a CA bred mare? If so, maybe they named her after the city Cypress! LOL Long shot, but you never know! No, the babe came from Arkansas, I believe. I suspect she showed an early liking for rolling in swamps and was named after a swamp tree! Her pedigree, like most TBs, is interesting if you go back a few generations. www.pedigreequery.com/cypress+babe

Here goes with my 3
Independant Goal is his jockey club name..........I call him Go-Go or Goal or Goalie
Eagle is just plain Eagle on his papers and his most favorite name is Eagie Beagie
then there is Harbor of Grace aka as Billy. He was named after the trainer who found him in the auction pen at the race track and told jenarby about him and she kept him over the winter and then got him to my barn.

Basil came with the name and boy, does it fit his somewhat arrogant personality! The trainer who gave him to me said he had named him after his previous owner, Basil.....(can't remember the Greek last name!). His JC name is Blacken Sword.
Vie's JC name is Vie so why would one change that! If I ever show him, I might use C'est la Vie which is a favorite saying of mine.
So the only one I named was Dancer since I bred him. His sire was a QH, Rawhide Dave, and his dam, a TB grandaughter of Native Dancer. I originally sent Rawhide Dancer into AQHA but it was rejected so I resent Rawhide Leo Dancer since his sire's sire was Leo's Start. We call him Dancer, Big D, D-man among other goofy nick names.
Fun thread for a snowy saturday. And I do mean snowy; 2 feet and still snowing...

Great thread, some really cute, inventive names. Cara's JC name is And So On and On - She was called Cara by the trainer from the track. She is a feisty, little bay mare and Cara becomes Caramba for her USEF name. She has also been called "A Long Ride on A Short Bus" when we first started showing her. Ruby, 4yr Appendix was named by her breeder and is registered with the USEF as "A Little Romance". I call her Rubster, Ruby Doo,

Kelly, are you in Colorado? Is Drifter one that Einstein had then? I was in love with one that she had for a while. Yup, that's that Drifter! ;D I was tagging along with a friend who went to try some of M's sale horses. My friend rode I think two of them and the whole time Coop was standing quietly tied to the horse trailer. I was really smitten with him. My friend had no interest in Coop (felt he was too small) so M asked if I'd like to hop on after she rode him. Loved him, but was not shopping. M called me up a few weeks later to see if I knew anyone that wanted him at his new price. Hung up the phone and thought, "I want him!"

My mare Candy is AQHA registered as A Sharp Can by Brother Can by Bonanza Can and goes back to Coys Bonanza on top. On the bottom she goes to Leo, Go Man Go and a horse by the name of Music Man. Thus the "A Sharp" as in the musical note. She also goes to the TB sire Three Bars. My favorite "pet" name for her is Candandy or My Can.
Candy's first born foal was not registered, but would be an Appendix QH having a TB sire. We named him Buck, although he was a bay.
Candy's second foal, a filly, I named Docs Sharp Valentine and we called her Val. Her third and last foal, another filly was a full sister to the second foal. I named her Osee Candees Finale, and called her Allie.
Of all the other horses we've had here I changed only one name. The TWH I had was called Dominator by his previous owner only because that was his registered name. I changed his name to William and called him Will. We had a Dot, a Cody, a Lee,and a Holly.

Both of mine came with the barn names, Taz and Curry. They know their names so I didn't have the heart to change them - they fit. I do have several variations of those names that I call them, as long as it has something in it that sounds like their names, they respond.
