Looks like I'm getting married next fall so my goal is to get back down to marathon weight-- I need to lose 20-25#s. I'm going to run, yoga and weight lift if I can just convince BF (or...fiance...I guess) that we need a treadmill and weights.

Lisa -- You can do a lot of upper body weightlifting without using your legs at all.
Front and side raises Dead lift Pec flies Bicep curls Tricep (kickbacks and the arms above head ones) Chest press Upright Row
Add that in to some core body work, and you should be sweating in no time...
Now I need to get back to the gym for the first time in two weeks (at least I have been riding on the weekends).

It will help you keep focused on running and not freaking out. Trust me. The morning of my sister's wedding (she was the first of the sibs) I took my mom on a 10-miler. She beat the hell out of herself and was cheerful all day long:)

when I hit 45 my metabolism just up and died i think. I don't overeat, I don't eat munchy snack stuff, but I still had to make changes. My hubby is an adamant, no fat or as-little-as- possible dieter. Make a big pile of rice with a chicken boullion cube. You can reheat this all week for your supper meal. Add in all the veggies you want. Steam them - get a steamer basket at the supermarket. Use a light butter, Land0Lakes whipped butter is half the fat of the regular stuff. No popcorn, no soda, no chips, no cheeseburgers, no fries, no shakes, no ice cream, no cookies. I stopped drinking soda and lost 2 lbs in a week or two. Once a week I have a burgers and fries when I have lunch with Mom but that's it. I take a yogurt for lunch and some low fat graham crackers, 1 ounce of cheese, or I'll have low sugar instant oatmeal with 1/2 to 3/4 cup dried fruit and cinnamon. I buy fat free puddings so I get my chocolate fix. Pack a veggie sandwich - onions, peppers, spinach, zuccini, tomato, low fat or fat free mayo. Use egg beaters in place of real eggs and make your own muffins. Load 'em with oatmeal and fruit. Make 6 or more on weekends and toss in your lunch bag or take on your commute to work. Krusteaz makes a fat free muffin / coffee bread mix, blueberry or cranberry, just add water. Once in awhile I skip their fruit and mix in other dried or frozen fruit, or pumpkin, or carrots. Check the fat and calories on the tomato sauce, if you like that on your pasta. Hunt's makes a fat free sauce that's really good.

Has anyone tried the diet ( of course I cant remeber the name) but the rules are, you can eat as mcuh fruit and vegtables as you want. Since my biggest problem is I get hungry all the time I could eat many meals of fruits and veggies each day. I have chronic headaches, and if i get just a little hungry, Ill get a headache that have me crawling in a hole. Sometimes I think I eat from fear of getting a horrible headache.

So, I'm pretty proud of myself today. Sort of. I had an apple for breakfast instead of the donuts sitting right there. For lunch, I was out of town, and I went to this amazing college run fast food type place, and screwed up lunch, but I never get to go there cause there's not one near me and it's so good. Then for dinner, I had a 6" wrap from subway.
We walked a LOT today, and I carried around a 3 year old for a while, so that was a work out. I'm planning on going to a fitness center 2 times this week, and my goal is 100 sit ups a day. I've always loved that even though I weigh more than I should, my stomach is pretty flat, until recently. However, I give "thunder thighs" a new meaning!
How's everyone else doing?

Aaargh I need a kick in the butt, I can't NOT eat an ice cream and have gymmy bears at night! I wish I could just not have any in the house, but with a hubby and kids who, thankfully , are not on a diet, and my own volatile will power....*sigh*
DebbieH thanks for all the ideas! I typically have only coffee for breakfast (I'm never that hungry when I get up, and always in a hurry) then around 8:30 am I have a banana or a Kashi cereal bar. Small lunch (either a veggie sandwich or some leftovers, and a yogurt), but then I tend to snack until, and after, dinner. Grrr.

We never had a scale until hubby got hurt, and then we had to get one to weigh him all the time because he had lots of fluid build-up and we were to make sure it kept coming off gradually. Well, gee. If I'd known how depressing it is to own a scale, I would never have agreed to this plan! (By the way, Bruce has lost 30 pounds since his wreck--some was extra tummy, but a lot was muscle, and I want it all back! I like having a big guy.)
I'm tall and I don't care how much I weigh, really, but I don't like the shifting sands. I've always eaten anything I want, but I realize that I can no longer have sugar with impunity. (She said, after making a batch of cookies yesterday. Oy vey.) My goal for healthy eating is to avoid processed foods and bad fats. But I'll eat all the butter and olive oil I want, thank you very much! It's the sugar and white bread I should really avoid. Okay, I don't

I've been doing pretty well with running and eating better for 3 weeks now. The first 2 weeks I lost 0.6# . But last week I was down 4# Yay! I want to lose 5 by Thanksgiving (so just one more) and 5 more by Christmas and then I have until fall to lose the last 10-15. I think I'm going to run a half marathon in May and then a full Marathon in October. If I sign up for them as soon as they open that should keep me motivated. I just have to decide which marathon in October -- Baltimore or Chicago. I'm thinking Chicago. I have a brother in Kuwait right now that is getting into wicked good shape during his deployment and he lives in Chicago. I'm hoping he'll run Chicago with me. I tried to run it in 2005 but they kicked me out after 23.5 miles because they were convinced that I had a stress fracture in my foot so I really need to go back and finish this time for my own piece of mind.

I am leaning towards running Chicago because I wasn't able to finish last time. It's also pancake-flat, which is nice. Baltimore is NOT flat, there is a huge hill around mile 20 (the absolute worst place for it).

Woohoo I lost 2lbs last week!!! Not earth shattering, but pretty good for not being able to work out the way I would like.I just have been eating fruits and veggies, w/ just a little chicken. Plus lots of water.
