I have been reading about this diet. Apparently always followed by diabetics, this kind of diet is supposed to help you lose weight because it does not cause highs and lows in your blood sugar.
Experiences? ;D

All I can tell you is that when I was pregnant I was on a strict diabetic diet, because I had gestational diabetes. By the time I got to Henry's birth, I was 7 pound down from my pre-pregnancy weight. It was actually quite easy to maintain, if you can control your urges for sweets and carbs. I wish I could have kept with it, because it really seemed to work. But I love my sweets and carbs, darnit!!
Hmmm, maybe I should try it again. Maybe we could do it together! I'll share my food secrets with you.

That sounds like a great idea! My Grandmother was a diabetic and everyone in the house was always slim and trim. She always followed the diet to a T. What I like about it is you can still have carbs, but only the ones with the lower GI, below 55. Here's an example: www.southbeach-diet-plan.com/glycemicfoodchart.htmI need to lose 40lbs to get back to my Airforce days, but I would be happy to lose 30 ;D. Hey Melissa...would you like to try this with us?

I have a couple books that talk about the glycemic diet. I used it as guides for snacks and such. If any of you need to know how many calories to a recipe or anything I have a great program that breaks a recipe down and gives you the nutritional value. Good luck! I started dieting this spring and have lost 36 pounds so far =)

wow - you go, gemic! congrats! i'd love to see that recipe breakdown thingy. i'm going to set a goal of shedding 5 lbs by the end of september. i'm not a very good dieter, but i'd like to make some lifestyle changes -- namely, not eating cheeseburgers and fries 4x per week, and sitting onmy hiney at work (um, and WHY exactly are we fat? ??) i like the idea of moderating/eliminating those foods that are not productive in terms of nutrition and saiety. i had a really hard time with adkins because of all the fatty stuff (i can't eat that much bacon...i love bacon as much as the next girl, but yeesh!) and some of the stuff in southbeach gave me pause (um, ricotta desserts....EWWW!!) but i am developing quite the love for beans. nummy, and apparently highly recommended on this diet! my friend karen is going to join us vicariously, too.

Wow Gemic! That's awesome!
Okay I'm totally psyched now that I hear other people have been successful! I would love the calorie and nutrition thingy too. My problem is cooking for myself on diets, but this is one that everyone at home can do, even my 13 year old.

I'm actually doing Nutrasystem right now, based on the same principles. I've lost about 12 pounds so far.

Sarafina, I'm with you! I eat fast food way too much. I may make a pact to cut it out of my diet all together!
