welcome to exracers Stonehollowfarm. I think I may have to shorten that to SHF if you don't mind. We love pics here and need to know more about your OTTBs.

S'pose I'm new too...I've been sticking to the Main forum mostly, and only recently found this thread! My name is Gwen and I'm 24 years old and from good ol' Mantua, Ohio (even people who live close don't know where it is...so for reference, a few miles from Geauga Lake!). Been married a little over a year now, and recently graduated from college (class of '07). Been here all my life, and grew up on a dairy farm which milked 400 head of Holstein cows. I miss my black and whites Showed 4-H with cows, and after dreaming of having horses since I was little, we "inherited" a 3/4 morgan 1/4 TWH after my grandma died. April was her name, she was 19 when we got her and just passed away last year at age 35. Then came Ricky, my currently 22 y/o TB gelding who raced in his younger years as River Gun who was my 13th birthday present. He was my 4-H buddy along with my cows, and we played with the young heifers alot...he really liked them, and was turned out with them for a while sometimes coming in with cowlicks all over him! Poor guy probably thought he was one of them...then my sis got another TB, Betty! She's also currently 22 years old, but thinks she's 3. She raced in her younger years as Bet I'll Fly, and then was a barrel horse, now an amazing jumper. Then came Stormy...my first real project. He's currently 10 years old, came to me at 6 after racing at 3-4-5 through New Vocations. He's sweet and quirky--likes to "smile" before the bit goes in his mouth while tacking up (always when there's an audience around), tries to untie himself, likes to give horsie hugs. He's been with me for a little over 3 years now, and through much patience, his "drama queen" moments, and lots of time with my trainer, we're jumping! Been to our first schooling hunter show at the beginning of this year, and hope to do some minitrials this summer. Stormy raced as Stormy Waters3 and won about $12000 over those three years running at Beaulah Park and Thistledown. He's such a sweetheart though, really trying for me and enjoying also being a trailhorse. This is a great site with lots of great advice! Thanks for making a place for all of us to come and brag

Stormy, I didn't realize you were from Mantua. Been through that town many, many times. DH likes to do the truck pulls there as well. I have a very good friend who owns a TB breeding farm in the northern part of town as well. My filly's sire is form there. I live about an hour form you.

How cool! Sounds like the Ox Roast when they do the truck and tractor pulls...we used to pull our farm tractors up there! Always a great time, and there's always good food there And if that TB farm is in need of farm help, let me know! I'm gettin' pretty tired of this desk job...hope to see you at some of the schooling shows this summer too! I would've wanted to try the dressage one this weekend, but we're doing a pleasure show that's a bit closer and I'm not in lessons again yet. We also have a Potato Festival in the fall with all food that could possibly made from potatoes...that's usually in September. And the Soap Box Car Derby is around then too...I feel blessed to be able to live here still and stay close to the horses

Welcome, stormysmom!!! I'm so glad you found us here on Ex-Racers. I feel that those of us who have been here for a while are more like virtual "Family" even though most have been here far longer than I have.

So I'm new again(joined a longtime ago, reading mostly)...I am a friend of jenarby, in fact I have one of the exracers that she rescued on his way to Sugarcreek, named Enough Already, now known as Takoda. I LOVE his personality, a big goof ball. He is 16 hand Chestnut with a big blaze well, lots of chrome period, he could have been registered asa paint too... When we got him found out he had cartilege damage in his ankle and small crack in his sesmoid in his left front. But he is now riding sound. However, I'm not : ) I'm 6 months pregnant.
Currently living in Deerfield, Ohio so stormysmom, sounds like we are rte 44 neighbors : )
Still working on uploading a pic for my avatar, so hopefully by tomorrow I'll be set!

That's too cool cyoung13! My sis is in the same boat as you, due October 31st So I have to do "double duty" riding. And yes, route 44 is like a mile from my house, and is the thoroughfare to all the cool parts of Portage County! I grew up going to the Randolph Fair...Have you ever been there?
