Anyone else think we should have a Racing Board? Us racetrackers could post about or racers and others can post their questions about the sport or why they're exracers do certain things...It might help clean up this board a lil. Yes, HeartSoBold, I meant to create this for you when you asked a few weeks ago. My apologies for forgetting you! Okay, post away in the new "At the Races" board! Christi

What is a published work? Is it supervised and timed? Do they have to run a certain distance under a certain time? Sort of a qualifier? And how do you go about getting a published work? Do you just make an appointment? Show up between certain hours? It's all so foreign to me! Franz Kafka's Metamorphisis is a published work. It is about a man who wakes up one morning to find he has become a gigantic cockroach. Kafka's work is very symbolic - and loaded with laughs. Franz Kafka was an obscure 19th century Jewish German clerk. Modern day literature teachers are fasinated by the bitter irony of the erie premonitions of life in 20th century totalitarian collectivist states ( The Penal Colony) and alienation one encounters when they undergo change ( Metamorphisis ) . High school teachers just love irony, especially bitter irony. You could ask me to explain what is ment by " That filly broke her maiden today" but it may have occured to you that that wouldn't be prudent , and you'd probably be right.

I've actually read this! It's been a while (read high school) and I don't remember laughing, but I think I missed the irony.

Varda ended up 6th which we were really happy with considering from where we stood there's no way our jockey shoudln't have gone over her head. She nearly went down. She wasn't paying attention in the gate and was being a little brat, so when they broke she nearly fell. She was a good little girl, never stopped trying (even with 50 lbs of dirt down her throat) and wasn't more than 10 lengths out of it in 6th. I think closer to 6 lengths. So I'm happy! And she came out of it well. :daisy:

I saw her race this afternoon, but missed the start. Too bad. She did look like she kept trying.

I read that she had stumbled so I glad that she is okay. Poor girl- it must be hard to keep going after a bad start like that. Sounds as though she might have been in the money if she hadn't stumbled.

Stumbling puts it mildly... Nearly knocking her little teeth out is more like it.
I think she was really annoyed that she didn't get to run last week when she was ready to- cuz she was downright obnoxious today. She was terrible leading up the race, then when the pony took her to the gate she was bouncing all around and acting dumb (course there could be worse things than a good feeling horse!), then in the gate she wouldn't stand, nearly turned herself around right before the break, so when they all broke she just wasn't paying attention. The jockey jumped off and checked her head when he brought her back to me- apparently she cracked herself in the gate.
The important thing is she is fine and she did run well. She got quite a bit out of it- should run much better next time adn should settle down for next time too.
Next up- my baby will run next week.

I saw the results and hoped she was okay. Just think of how she would have done if she hadn't fallen!
It's always tough to catch up after a bad break or stumbling. SO she must have tried her little heart out.

Jen- I was surprised she came back to beat two horses... We were very happy with how she ran. Poor jockey was disappointed though- he knew she had it in her to be in the top 4 and get a check.
And she's got her appetite back!!! (oddly enough- I thought she'd go OFF her feed from running, but hey, I'm NOT complaining!) ;D
