Hello, My name is Regina I will be 29 in a few weeks I live in Chicago area and I own a 6 years old TB Gelding named "Mime". I bought Mime from a breeder at the age of 3 he did not make it on Arlington and Hawthorn Race Track in Chicago. I don't know if he is considered OTTB since he was only trained for the track but never raced for money. Mime is my first horse I have ever owned and he taught me a lot about horses, ownership and the vet bills. ;D I am very experienced in colic symptoms now and I know all vets in Illinois and Wisconsin. Mime is a very special boy to me he was almost put down from a puzzled colic that he had every day for 8 months. He has visited every vet and every clinic in Illinois and left everyone puzzled until Dr. Austin from Wisconsin Equine Clinic figured out his problem. Now he is on a special feed 4 times a day and has been doing fine for the past 1 year and 1/2 and hopefully will stay like that forever. My purpose for him was to be a Dressage horse but we did not get to do it until this year as I did not want to push him since he was still recovering. This year we were finally showing in Dressage Schooling Shows where we placed 1st & 2nd and had a score in high 50th and low 60th. How about that for a 1st show and a recovering horse!!! Dressage is defiantly Mime's sport when he steps into that ring it's like I have a show horse that has been in the ring many times before and knows what to do. He gets collected and does everything you ask of him until he leaves the ring. He is a great looking horse with a huge hart, great personality and a little bit of an attitude. He loves to do Dressage but likes to play more than he likes to work. I love him to peaces and he is now stuck with me for the rest of his life. Poor Boy. I came across this board accidentally and very happy that I did. I have been reading some posts on this forum and now decided to join in.

Welcome Regina! How nice to hear about your experiences. Boy that does sound like a baptism by fire kind of introduction to ownership. Hopefully the rest of your time with Mime will be relatively uneventful, except for lots of ribbons! ;D

Thank you ClaireLV. I never thought like this before but you are absolutely right it is like a baptism by fire. ;D That was great welcome to the horse world which I will never forget. Until this day when I see my horse park out my hart stops for a moment until I realize that he is just preparing to pee.

Welcome Pixin! There are a few of us here that have parrots, although I think you're our first grey! I actually work as a parrot trainer and am supposed to be writing a book about training parrots (deadline last week LOL!) so I'll try and sell ya a copy when I finally get it into print! BTW there are plenty of people here that will spend your horse budget for you. Just give us the word and we'll find a million needy causes just waiting to fill any empty stalls we can get our hands on! Welcome again!

Welcome, Pixen! Are you anywhere near Fairmount in IL? There are still some nice horses left there after the Paddock Sale last Saturday. What would you do with an OTTB if you bought another?

Hey everyone!
I'm Lisa. I'm 33 and live in the metro Atlanta, GA area. I'm a licensed vet tech and manage a small animal hospital in the Athens area.
My husband and I don't have two legged kids, nor are we planning on it. Our furred and feathered are our kids. My husband didn't ride when we met, but very quickly learned that if you can't beat 'em then join 'em - and he has come to LOVE the horses as I do. What a gem!
Our family includes:
Dillon - 10 YO grade QH (my husband's trail horse) Josh - 4 YO Paint / TB cross (my dressage horse) Gracie - yearling APHA filly Indy - weanling APHA filly
(I like the colored ones!)
A Doberman, an Italian Greyhound, the obligatory geriatric Jack Russell, a sheltie and a bassett hound. We also have 5 birds and one cat. I know we've got a zoo!
Love this board!
Lisa

Hi All. My name is Vicki, I'm 46 and live in N.W.IL with my hubby, 13 yr old son, 85 yr old dad-in-law(we take care of him) 3 dogs, 17 barn cats, and 10 horses. LOL, yeah, we have a zoo around here. My horses are: Dudesicle aka Danny, 18 yr old TB. He won one race in 89, then went on to be an eventer until health issues forced his retirement in 99 when I got him. 2) Genes Arrow, 16 yr old reg. palomino quarterhorse gelding. 3) The Blaze, 15 yr old chocolate palomino quarter/morgan mare. 4)Shadow, 4 yr old black breeding stock paint gelding. 5)Nighthawk, 3 yr old black B.S. paint. 6)Chance, 2 yr old black B.S. paint (half brother to Hawk) 7)Smokey, 18 yr old buttermilk buckskin quarter horse gelding. 8)JJ, 8 yr old reg Appy mare. 9)Crystal, 25 yr old Arabian mare. 10) Cowboy Scat McCue, 10 yr old reg paint gelding. All my horses were basically "throwaways" by other people, but they will live out their lives here with me. I trail ride with friends and neighbors, but get the most pleasure just spending time out in the pasture with "my kids."

I have been a luker on the board for over a year now! I am so happy that I have finally been able to get my computer to let me login and post. I already feel like I know everyone so well since I have lurked for so long. ;D Let me tell you guys a little about myself. I live in Ky and am owned by 23 horses along with 5 dogs, 3 cats, and 1 very cool box turtle! I have several OTTB along with several other breeds as well. In the past two years I have just gotten into breeding of TB's. My riding passion is eventing and dressage(in all my spare time) I also love trail riding as we have beautiful lakes in our area to enjoy. I also try and do my fair share of rescues when money and time permits. I have had the pleasure of working with so many wonderful OTTB. I really enjoy helping transition them into new riding homes. I have a few that will never be riding sound and they make lovely pasture ornaments We are hoping to produce some really nice race and sport babies. I am very excited about putting our first horses on the track. My dream is to have a derby winner but that of course is a long way off. I am just looking forward to our first healthy crop of foals in the spring! We should have 9 babies coming and I simply can't wait. I am in the process of writing several books and would love someday to do a small therapy riding program at our farm. I can't wait to share thoughts and ideas with everyone on the board. I love making new horsey friends! ;D Hi everbody!

Hi splash! Well, this answers my question about where you are located huh? Kentucky? Well, that sure is close, compared to the people in Texas, Virginia, and California trying to "help" me find a pony! hahaha Actually, I am pony window shopping, as my daughter isn't quite ready to move up yet... but when it comes to late fall and people are trying to sell horses before the winter, you think more about it than you should huh? haha
