HI Im Sonia and Im in Illinois. My husband, son and I have a small farm here where we have a few horses. We have a TB mare "Miss Lucy Love" who was the first CANTER mare approved with a German Verband for breeding. JoAnne of MI CANTER used to have a picture of her and Lucy's first foal on the website and Lucy was also featured in Equus, The Yankee Peddler and a few other magazines which had an article about CANTER. I have always loved the TB having really started my riding career when I lived in KY. And frankly, Lucy is one of the best individuals I have ever met!

That's so cool about your mare! She sounds like one special girl.
Welcome and tell us a little more about yourself. How long have you been riding, what type of riding do you do, how long have you had Miss Lucy, etc, etc. ?!

Thanks Amy, I have been riding for at least 15 years...some of that just trail riding then when I moved to KY in the 90's I did lower level evening. Now Im more focused on dressage, although I still love to go around a cross country and a good hand gallop where you can hear the wind by your ears. KWIM? I just enjoy being around horses though...would love to try team penning and still plod down the road on occassion. Right now Im down to just my two mares (Lucy and a WB mare) everything else I either sold and I had to put down our aged mare that was my husbands due to cancer (she was a rescue and over 30!). I am a stay at home mom so this makes things managable for me. I still would like to find a husband horse to replace the one we lost...but times are tuff with no second income so Im just waiting till things get better.

Hi. Newbie here. I'm married to a soldier in the Army, so we don't really have anywhere that we're "from". I was born in AL, but have lived in a ton of different states. Most recently CA, TX, and now GA. I am going to be going into the Army myself in about 8 days, so I will be a newbie here till then, then I'll be gone for about six months and hopefully when I get finished with all my training, I can come back! I own a TB retired racehorse named Too High. He is out of In Excess, a leading stallion in CA and a stakes winner. I bought him last year. He was eight and had just come off of the track. He raced for six years. He's a 16 hand bay with a heart on his forehead and is a true sweetie. I've ridden him bareback with just a halter (that was actually only the second time I had ever been on him) and he rides as well bareback as he does with a saddle, so that's generally how I ride him. I haven't had him out of an arena yet because he does get nervous when he's outside. He is right now staying with a friend of mine in TX until I get out of Basic and my other training. I am seriously considering getting another horse from the friend where Too High is now. He's a bay with an upside-down exclamation on his forehead and is a grandson of Seattle Slew. He's ten (I think) and is right now way underweight and has some hoof problems. He runs his heels down way too fast, so has to have bar shoes and he was underfed. So now he's in rehab with them and if it looks like he'll be sound for anything more than pasture pet and if someone else doesn't get him while I'm gone, I will 99% most likely bring him home with Too High. (Hubby says no to having a lawn ornament or I'd get him regardless b/c I'm smitten.) His name is Tiger's Lair, so that also explains my name.

Hey HighLair and welcome!! Ugh, basic training?! Good luck...and you go girl! So does Too High get some time off while your away or will your friend work with him in your absence? And where in AL were you born? I was born in Dothan while my dad was in Vietnam. He and my mom met while he was stationed at Ft. Rucker. And I love my sweet tea, too. The sweeter the better! And no lemon, orange or rasberry, please.

Hi Amy! Thanks, I'm going to need the luck! Too High's getting some time off, yes. I'm hoping he gets ridden a little, at least! :horsie: (Heehee, that's cute!) I'm from Guntersville. It's up north a little south of Huntsville. I've been to Dothan once for State swim meet several years ago. Seemed like a nice place. HUGE rec center and pool! Orange tea? Ewwww. That's just :loon:

Hi! I'm Erika and own 3 horses. One is my older quarterhorse that was raced in OK, TX.
The other two are rescued thoroughbreds that came from New York. Love those TB's. Wish I could save more; only have a small farm and live in Georgia but tell as many people as possible about these wonderful horses.
Ride every weekend in Aiken's beautiful Hitchcock woods. :horsie:

Well, I've kind of introduced myself on the other board to!
Here goes,
I'm a 24 year old, living with my boyf in our newly bought Victorian house and have a 4 year old ex racer, his stable name is Kite, racing Mactire. He was raced as a 2 year old but had problems with the starting stalls and just generally didnt enjoy himself so he was retired and left in a field for a year.
I got him at the start of 2003, looking very thin. I've been using Monty Roberts techniques to train him and he responds to it really well. He still acts like a racer when hes excited but is a lot better at calming himself down and getting on with the job at hand. Other than that he is a complete sweetie and is always first over to see what is going on (especially if there is food involved). I've also be clicker training him which he loves. We have good games of fetch on our days off!
So hello to you all!

Hee, yall are too funny:) I am Sarah, 23, Gemini, love long walks on the beach... J/K. Seriously, though-- I'm a preschool teacher in SW Florida and love my job. Horses teach me lots about kids, and vice versa. The same principles apply to training horses that do to teaching kids (and training men!).... Right now I am mommy/food slave to Allaroundtheworld, aka Devon, Pigpen, or My Beloved Porkchop-- he's a *coughcough* easy keeper-- who is my first "greenie", although I've been riding hunters and jumpers since I was a wee (not really, I was a chunk) tiny thing of 8 years old. Working w/him is always a learning experience and also funny as heck, since he's got quite a personality and his own very definite opinions on things... Lessee, what else? Umm, in a perfect world I'd be working in the horse industry-- not like I'm makin' much more teaching than I would be grooming!-- but I'm not complaining! Except about all the damn RAIN we're getting right now...too mucky to ride

Doh!!! OK, I've already posted twice and NOW I realize I should introduce myself here. Sorry everyone! My name is Evelyn, I'm 43, been riding for 22 years.
My first horse was a rescue case, a Morab mare who bolted with the kid they bought her for and was turned out in drylot for the next 6 years without sufficient feed, shots, or trimming. She was, therefore, still greenbroke at 10, when I bought her!
Anyway - she turned out to be a great little horse, sound and game. I kept her until she was 19, then when I had to move out of state, sold her to a riding stable as a much-beloved youngster's horse. The little girls who rode her used to send me Christmas cards with pictures of them riding her inside. Very nice.
My next horse was a TB who had been taken off the track at 5 and gelded (so they said!) by some people who basically pointed and kicked him over x-country jumps for the next couple of years. They never bothered trying to put any manners, steering or brakes on him. He became rogueish and the woman who had him sold him to me for cheap, because she couldn't handle him anymore.
He was gorgeous. I worked dressage with him for two years, built up his topline, did Parelli work with him (crucial!) and when I became pregnant, sold him on to an AZ junior champion jumper rider. Last I heard she and he were still fully in a love thing.
I've been a horseless rider for the last three years, riding other people's project or underused horses. Now I am starting to get that feeling again that means a horse is coming up. I've been thinking about going to the Fairmount auction in Oct, but I'm afraid to!
I made my living as a graphic designer in Tucson, AZ, and have been a stay-at-home mom for a couple of years now. I had my own horse sales website, which never really panned out (www.kansashorsesales.com) and which will be abandoned next year when my domain renewal comes up. I am a painter and am working to get representation in gallerys in the Midwest and elsewhere. Anyone, want to trade abstract paintings for horses? Or for board? Or for shoeing? Heh heh...
I'm glad to be here. Sorry I jumped the gun with the postings before introducing myself properly.
-Edwina

Hi my name is Mimi and I live in central Florida. I am 18 years old and just started my first year in college. I do not currently own a horse b/c I just started riding again. I used to ride since I was 9 till 15. I had "teenage" things to do but am now back into doing hunter/jumping more than ever!!! I love it and I love horses and I hope to some day...if I survive college... to become a large animal vet...and if that's too hard then I will do something involving animals...preferably horses! I am currently trying to save up money to adopt a retired race horse and train it to be a hunter/jumper. I think its sooo amazing that I didnt ride for those 3 years and my first lesson at my old barn was like I had never quit! I guess it's like riding a bike- once you learn you never forget! Good luck to everyone with their horses!!!!

Hi, I just found this board, this morning. I'm Carolyn, and I run a farm called Dancing Lawn in Ontario. I'm a horse trainer, and coach, although I used to be a telephone repairman. I've been doing the horse thing for about 30 years. On the farm right now, there are 23 horses and ponies, most of them rescued. Feel free to brownse my website, right now it features the sale horses, but in the future, I'll be adding Dancing Lawn equine Sanctuary, to promote the rescue side of my business. www.dancinglawnhorses.com
