I have been riding off and on with a few of my friends who compete in Dressage and eventing. As Katie Jo can tell you I have been looking for a prospect for a while ... so much has been going on that it looks like I will be waiting until spring. I have owned a couple of OTTB and have found them to be the most rewarding experiances ! I am looking forward to my barn FINALLY!! going up this spring and to get going again. I look forward to chatting with you all Talk to you soon M

My name is Nancy and I live in Columbus OH where my sister and I have 5 tbs--four are offtrack, two Arabs and a mini stallion. I admit to being horse crazy as a child, but never thought we'd ever have this many. The tbs really started as a rescue after a 20 year hiatus from riding. One rescue led to another. I suspect they all have homes for life.
I'm 48 and being a right below-knee amputee, that means all my horses must have exceptionally polite manners and stand still while I mount. We don't show, but do trail ride extensively and play with dressage. We occasionally do arena work, especially when the weather is bad. They all go through swamps, water, and over logs and across platforms and tarps (some better than others!). Wish we had a bridge for practice though. I'd also like to work on driving (we drive the mini already) one or two of them, but dont have a fullsize cart and reins. Anybody drive their OTTB?
This summer I bred my mare (by a son of Seattle Slew out of a Gallant Man mare) to Academy Award (by Secretariat out of a Mr Prospector mare) so we are anxiously awaiting our first foal next spring. I'd love to hear from anyone who has a tb out of Academy Award. Hoping for a filly, but have a strong feeling it's going to be a colt.
I've been a lurker here too, but you folks are all so very positive about your horses and others that I decided to join in. It's easy for people to forget what they love about horses as they get caught up in pursuing activities that loose the fun for them. I'm just happy to have tbs in my life, whatever we do with them.
Nancy
P.S. I do work fulltime as a virtual library manager at a large corporation and do a lot of market intelligence information work.

Sorry, I didn't even know this was here or I would've introduced myself earlier.
I'm Heather and I live in Wawaka, IN (way north, about 20 minutes from Sturgis, MI). I'm 29 and have had or been around horses that whole time. My great-grandfather raised and raced standardbreds from the main farm here at home. My great-uncle was from England and retrained OTTB's for fox hunting near Chicago. And of course my dad was a grain farmer who fulfilled my horse addiction by helping me buy my first horse when I was 13. It was all downhill from there!!! LOL!!!
I just purchased my first OTTB this week after selling my QH gelding of the past 7 years. He is a 5 year old, dark bay gelding that I renamed Riley (Fab Do in his former life). I keep him at a wonderful boarding barn in Shipshewana, IN because we don't have the room here at my house (and in northern IN an indoor arena is geat in the winter). I goal is to retrain him for lower level dressage and some hunter classes (no bigger than 2'6").
I'm married to Chris and am mother to a wonderful little boy, Eion, who is 2. I'm fortunate to be able to stay at home with him full-time. I also have 2 cats. Monster is a 30 lb. Maine Coon mix (yes, he really is 30 lbs.!!!). Cali is all of 5 lbs. dripping wet, but she runs the house.
Glad to be here and can't wait to get to know everyone.

Hi, :snowman: I am oldie to some of you , but a newbie to this new forum. I am a semi retired nurse and now a care giver for my son and I have a with a life long passion for horses. The horses have helped me cope with his illness and has helped him to the road to recovery. He did the therapeutic riding and now lease a Mustang mare that we both ride. He has a bond with her that is very special to see. I ride her, too but love the TBs! Happy Holidays to all! :xmas: Mustang Carole :horsie: TEXT

I'm Melissa and I've been lurking without posting too. I'm 37 married to a horsey hubby. 2 girls 9 and 10. 2 more stepkids that live with there mom. Larry 6 yr OTTB,Moe 4 yr OTTB,Lacey 20+ TB, Mustafa 13 yr QH,Lil Girl 18 yr QH, Hemmingway 20 Morgan and Joe a 17 yr mule. Bristol queensland/border collie 2 yrs, Boo Boo Rott/chow 1 yr, Attilla 13 wk toy fox terrier. I ride english. Kids and hubby ride western. 9 yr old wants to barrel race. 10 yr old wants to jump. My husband has always had QHs. I converted him to TBs back in July. Moe is his first. I would like to start doing endurance next year. My boy is 16.3 and has a huge stride. So even if we just walk and trot a little. I figure he do well. He had spent 3 yrs on the track and was pretty unruly. So he spent a year in a pasture waiting for me. I went to look at another horse and asked if they had anything a little more exciting. And that how Larry and I ended up together. He's come along way but we are still working on a few things. Nice place and nice :)people

Thanks Amy. I only know a few people that do endurance and they all ride Arabs. They think I'm nuts trying to use a OTTB. They are starting to come around though. He was a maniac when i brought him home. And after a lot of hours of ground driving and even more hours standing at the hitching post. He is doing so well. I know a 74 year old man that still competes on his 23 yr Arab. He is amazing.

:horsie: I also just found this aspect of this forum. after having posted several times and sending an intro- duction via the main board thread. Here though I can fully expand on my canine, feline, and equine family plus my wonderful, understanding husband, who has learned the theraputic and just plain joy of having animals and watching their antics with a laugh and giggle or chuckle thanks to them.
We live in Sw Missouri, 14 miles east of Joplin,MO. I work for Joplin R-VIII School District. Max is retired from the Missouri Transportation Department after 35 years of dedication. We moved to our rural 10 acres in 1995. We've had up to five horses at one time. All being ex- cellent on ground manners and such except for the youngsters we've raised. They have all turned out to be good horses. Max had never had much horse experience until we moved here and I've taught him what he knows which he will readily agree.
Max has four dogs, all mixed breeds. We have a Pen- broke Welsh Corgi, two house cats and four barn cats. Of the donkeys there is Deacon Carter, his son,Skeeter and the chocolate jenny sisters, Frenchy and Lollipop.
See you all down the threads!!...Deb
