Thanks everyone! Goaliemom - I like the word and want to use it eventually as a show name for a horse; I think I originally read it as a kid in a Madeleine L'engle book. I'm no meterologist, I just know it has something to do with wind I live in Middleburg, horse country central! I've actually lived in various places in Virginia my whole life. I want to live somewhere else far away eventually, but I do love it here...

katabatic, I'm in Upperville and if you drive on 50 from Middleburg towards Upperville, you drive right by our farm! We start young horses, do ottb retraining and sales, and event as well! I also gallop in the mornings, which is awesome, but it's like being a kid in a candy store, I want to bring so many of them home and make them into event horses Welcome to Exracers!

Thought I would introduce myself. I've been here a couple of weeks, I guess. My name is Kristi. I don't have a horse anymore. I had an OTTB but I sold him after my 3rd baby was born. I was finding it difficult to find the time to tend to him and I thought he would be better off. They knew every one of his problem areas and still wanted him so I hope he is in as good of place as it seemed. I know where he is, but like others have said in other posts I don't have the courage to go see him. It's been 7 months and I still cry when I think about him.
Other than that I have pygmy goats, llamas, a Doberman (my 3rd one.. they are my favorite breed) and a Mixed Breed (who still goes by "stray dog" b/c I haven't thought of a name yet), 2 cats, and a Macaw + 3 kids (6, 2, 10 mos).

Welcome crisotaidh ;D we hope you enjoy exracers and it sounds like you have your hands full with all of your family. 2-legged and 4-legged. Now if you don't mind, I will probably shorten your user name to CT, as i get very lazy sometimes when typing. haha Do you mind?

Welcome CT, I'm a big Dobe fan myself. I have a 6 y/o black and tan male named Chopper. Most of the time he thinks he's a lap dog.

Ahh so here is the newbie thread I was lookin' for before! I'm still at work, so gotta keep this short but...I am owned by 7 yo Zigzag Dancin' Zephyr (Zigzag Dan) that kind of chose me, Ke'Chara, a 6 yo "boonie" dog from Guam, Shetani, a 6 yo hand-raised dlh and Gwydion, a slightly older than 1 yo Bengal/Siamese cross from a shelter (that also chose me) - actually I guess they all did...I worked at rehab barn for racehorses until an unfortunate well-placed kick made me quit from there. Joined the Army as an animal technician for 4 years and work in MA in a military research lab commuting to and from NH. (But I sleep at work ALOT) Gotta go! --Loki

Hi to all, I am Claudia, reside in Idaho, new owner of Billy, a very sweet intelligent 9yr ottb, work 2 jobs, married,I have 2 children, 1 dog, 1 cat, and the count of the amorous guppies fluctuates, I have not ridden in awhile but wanted to get back into the passion of horses again, and introduce it to my children, by the way they are smitten with billy. I have owned ottb in the past and have had good experiences with them. Billy was owned by 1 owner and trained by 1 trainer his entire career, he was the star of their stable, the groom even slept in his stall at night, his basic personality is one of calm curiosity. I am glad to have found this site.

I am the proud new owner of my first OTTB whose name at the track was "Hank". It's sticking for now. I'm in the process of trying to find out his registered name from his tattoo. From what I know, he raced in his younger years and then was used as a lead pony for a while. He's got a winning personality, very quiet and sweet. He needs to get up to date on his shots, dental work, and hoof care and after that we'll saddle him up and see what he can do!
