Hi everyone ... :wavey:
Like everyone else says, I forget to check the newbie board, sorry! WELCOME!
Jeanette - where do you live? I am now in England, but I'm from Bulawayo. We also have Julia, who lived in Botswana. So it's good to have another Africa-hand here!
Welcome, everyone. :wavey: :wavey:

Hello
I just saw this and I've been posting for awhile (and lurking a lot).
I'm Abigail, I live in Virginia. I just moved here from MD where I have lived all of my life. I'll be 30 in September. I started riding when I was 10. My dad bought my first horse when she was a yearling and I was 11. She was at the farm where I was riding, he met her and fell in love with her. They were going to send her to auction so my dad bought her for $250. It probably wasn't wise but he may have saved her from being dog food. Anyhow we did fine together but she had some balance issues (possibly a low-grade wobbler) so I really couldn't do anything with her but trail ride. I did low level eventing from age 12-20. Since then I hadn't done anything but trail ride my mare. She got laminitis last year and started to separate so I had to put her down. That was a pretty awful experience. I bought Nathan (that's his JC name) in November and am in the very slow process of trying to re-wire us both.
I live with my boyfriend, who is the best farrier in the world (obviously a biased opinion) and our lab/hound puppy dog Toby. I work in a lab doing HIV (actually SIV but it's a model for HIV) research during the week and as a nurse at an equine hospital on the weekends and some evenings. The hospital is without a doubt the best job in the world and I'm currently trying to figure out a way that I can live on what they pay so I can just do that.
Sorry this got very long...I'm usually not long-winded believe it or not

Hello! I'm also new I have two ex racers of the canine variety living with me right now. I'm thinking of getting back into horses after a five year break. I really, really miss it. My last horse was bred and trained for the track but never raced. He was awesome and so much fun to work with and to train. I'd really like to get another ex racer. I want a project, a horse that needs retraining. Unfortunately I'll have to wait a while until finances will allow it, but it's fun to dream! Right now I work at a greyhound track picking up evening cards. I absolutely love it. Working with the dogs is amazing and the environment there is unlike any other. I know quite a bit about dog racing, but not enough about horse racing and I'm eager to learn more. Here are some pictures of my kids... Dazzle ( WB's Dazzle Me) and Echo ( Pep Echo) Charlie Charlie and me showing five or six years ago Thanks for having me

Hi, im Fran. I am 22 years old, live in VA, work as a pharmacist for Kroger. Just bought my second OTTB. Keep my horses at my uncles farm which is around the corner from Colonial Downs. I have had my show mare for over 2 years now. Bought her from a dealer I was riding for. Suzy (aka Soy Chispita) is a 1998 imported (Argentina) mare who never broke her maiden. Raced all over the place in the money a little. I have turned her into a H/J although there were times I thought it wasnt possible. Shes my big girl and shes not going anywhere. Planning for some A shows next year. Just bought another mare about 6 weeks ago off the track from Maryland. Her name is Holly (Nice N Heavenly). She won a couple races but wasn't fast enough apparently. Of course I was trying her out and she cut her knee open, so she became a keeper. She is a 5yo Hay Halo mare. I am just doing ground work for now to settle her down some. Additionally I have a "adopted" (not mine but her owner comes out maybe 2x/month) OTSTB. Her name is Belle (Bells Princess). She is a cute little mare who won a couple big races as a 2yo but has some stifle problems so she was retired. I broke her at the farm and she is a sweetheart, she just gets no love. However she is a meanie in the field with the others. I have been married a year and my DH and I have 3 cats (Jackson, Karl, and Pearl) and a pain in the rear lab/border collie cross named Sam. Thats all for now...... Suzy before I brought her home Suzy now after a bathSuzy at a showBelle before bringing her homeBelle all cleaned upFinally the new girl Holly

Hi Fran, beautiful horses and I am very interested to know more about Suzy. Why did you not think she would make it as a H/J???

Fancyhorse, suzy is a very lazy mare. when i first started training her over fences she would literally knock the same small (18") jump over 20 times in a row and she is 16.1h. She likes to "hang her feet". She has gotten better with training and experience its just slower going. I was training her and the otstb at the same time too, which made matters worse. The other horse never touched a thing and she moved up to 2'6" quickly with no problem. But she is the type that will literally scrape her belly with her feet. Her stifles just bother her when she does too much.

I have been lurking and posting and I just found this thread . I'm Lisa and I live in Maryland on a 10 acre farmette with my husband, son, three horses, a pony and eleven cats (7 outside, four inside). At the moment I don't have an exracer anymore- he is retired and loving life as a trail horse on the Eastern Shore- but I am planning on buying an OTTB soon. Here is my former (now retired) exracer, Picasso: And my other Tb (never raced):

Hi, I've been reading for a while but finally joined a couple days ago. I live in VA, work at a small foxhunting barn, and event my long-time off the track TB, Hobbes. I bought him a year ago out of the middle of nowhere (really) where he's been sitting in a field for two years (after racing 40ish times until he was six). He had the summer off for a minor injury and we're getting back into form - we have our first horse trials since April next week! ;D I'm kinda sorta looking for another project - looove those ponies off the track! One of the things I would love to get into is resales with OTTBs, but I worry I would just end up collecting all of them! Other than that, I'm kinda boring. I just graduated from college this spring so I'm enjoying my quieter, much less stressful life out at the barn. I do love my job!
