Hi CC, I work at NIST. I do terahertz spectroscopy of peptides now - not at all what I got the phd in (physics; photoelectron microscopy). My dad always used to say, BS, MS, PHD - it's just B***S***, More S*** and then, Piled Higher and Deeper.
I shoulda been a vet. Sigh. If I'd known then what I know now, ya know?

LOL! My BIL has his PhD in astrophysics. I asked him the title of his dissertation before he defended...uh, yeah...foreign language to me LOL!
I thought about vet school. But I think I would have been terrified to practice and would have wanted to stay in research! My older hunter has EPSM and I would love to have studied that.
But, instead I do the genetic testing for the Huntington's clinic here at Hopkins and get paid zilch for it! Nah, I make enough and loooove my flexible hours and non-slavedriving boss! ;D (Who doesn't mind if I take off on a Wed. to hunt and work saturday instead!!)
Welcome to the bb!!

Hey seeuatx and welcome! I get so used to seeing this thread at the top of the page, I forget to check it regularly, hope you've poked around and feel at home here.
I have 2 OTTBs right now, too. A 9 y/o Gelding, Tango who is back undersaddle and sound after fracturing his accessory carpel bone and a 10 y/o Gelding, Jay who was supposed to be a resale that I was just going to ride while Tango healed. Yeah, didn't happen. ;D Tango is doing so well on the trails with some light jumping, I'm hoping to be able to find him a great new home where someone else can enjoy him. I event at the lowest of levels but have fun at it!
Hope you stick around!

I'm Sleepy and I'm addicted to horses. (And apparently horse BBs ;D)
I am currently owned by a TB, a QH and an Appendix. But the circle is getting ready to be widened by the addition of an not-quite-off-the-track TB. I have obviously lost my mind because my Appendix trail horse was supposed to be the last. And here I am starting over with a 4 year old. I'm too old for this. :loony:
Anyhow, the gang and I live in NC on a farm outside of Raleigh.
Since I know nothing about re-training race horses, I will be looking for support. I have always started my horses from scratch, having either bred them myself or picked them up as 2-3 year olds at sales.

Hi, I also just joined exracers and will be looking for lots of feedback, sharing and knowledge about ottb's.
I have a 15yr old ottb, Tyler (Sugar Draz) gelding. I have been riding off and on for the past 30+ years, have had Tyler for 2.5 yrs and he is my first ottb. He is so adorable & sweet. He is a worrier so I have been taking my time with him, mostly trail riding and lower level dressage.
From what I have gathered in my research about Tyler, he raced until about 5/6 yrs old (11 races), his sire is the 1986 Breeders Cup Sprint Champion, Smile. Tyler has changed hands too many times in my opinion, - he was even with the Mass State Police for a year. My promise to him is that he has a forever home.

Hi, I joined ExRacers today. I thought I was a member previously. My husband and I just purchased our own horse property in Northern IL about a year and a half ago. I can't wait to get the indoor arena finished and the rest of our fencing so I can get back to riding and training. We have 5 horses now: Tex our solid citizen (aka babysitter) WP trained APHA, Warlord my big red OTTB that I ride dressage on, Windigo our 5 yo Han/TB goofball, Fancy my flashy OTTB, and Shelby our Han/TB yearling (or Princess as our friends like to call her).
We don't own any dogs, but have 1 house cat - a persian named Gizmo and his pet fish Nemo. And we have barn cats as well (Phoebe, Paige, and Spare)...to those who watch Charmed we did have a Piper as well.

Alo Everyone!
I'm Jeanette from South Africa. I have only owned Thoroughbreds so far and competed on them as well. Currently I have a super TB, Branston Hall, that I'm competing with in Dressage and showing. He can jump but I'm ficussing on Dressage more than anything else with him.
We have recently started a TB retraining program. We hope that this project will grow to a huge success and I have no reason to believe that it wouldn't.
You will see a lot of me on this forum picking everyones brains. I look forward in sharing thoughts, advice, ideas etc. here!
I will be posting soon! Can't wait to share our adventures!
