Welcome to all! I don't open this thread often enough. Good to see all those 40-something-with-kids on board! (although *I* of course will always be 28. Haha).

Hi all, I am Shelley, one of those 40 somethings, mom of two boys, 1 dog, 3 cats and now an ex-racer. Zara is a 12 year old, bay mare that was born and raced for 6 years .We are pretty sure weknow who she is (was) now from her lip tattoo but just waiting for confirmation. I found her with a local farmer about 6 weeks ago, filthy, hooves all overgrown and cracked, very underweight and depressed. She is coming along well, has gained weight and vet gave her a clean bill of health other than just general neglect. In th epast six weeks she has gone from looking kinda mangy to a glossy coat and a great personality (very pushy now)Hadn't planned on an ex-racer but she kind of chose us. Anyway, I have a trainer coming next week to see what she can and can't do and from there we will just take one day at a time.
Shelley

Hi, all. I'm Melissa... age 41 and a lifelong horsenut... wife to Doug, who's a non-rider but loves and happily helps with the horses from the ground... mom to OTTBs Curious George (The Z. Bar), a 1987 model seal brown gelding; Hootie (Groom Patrol), 1990 dark bay gelding; and Sam I Am (affectionately known as "the Mooseburger"), a 1994 seal brown Hannoverian gelding who daily wonders why he can't keep up. Small children include Griffen "the nine-life rottweiler".. Maddie "the lights are on but nobody's home" yellow Lab... Dublin, quite possibly the least athletic cat on the planet... and Gizmo, whose beauty is only surpassed by her uber-cat grace. I got George (badly bowed) at Penn National in October of 1992... and after a year of healing turnout began the training that eventually took him on to 2nd Level dressage. At 18, he's earned a rest from hard work but still loves trail rides. Hootie also came from Penn National (1996) - as a sales prospect. He went to his first hunter schooling show three months out of race training and looked like he'd been hanging out at the rail his whole life... how could I send him away?! He had a light career showing h/j and now teaches the ropes to some of my advanced students. Sam found his way to me last March through the Chronicle of the Horse giveaway board - his former owners were frustrated with a year's worth of attempts to solve a mouth problem. Don't ask why it wasn't done before, but when I had his head xrayed, we found the culprit - a 1.5" hypo needle lodged in his tongue. It's out and he's fine and a humorous addition to the family. Glad to meet you all.

Hello everyone! I have been lurking for just a short while since I have gotten my new baby. I have been riding for over 20 years horses of all sorts, shapes and sizes but I kept coming back to TB's. I have foxhunted, trained polo ponies, trained and retrained race horses and evented. I really enjoy reading about everyone elses horses, seeing their progress, and looking at pics. I just aquired my OTTB last week after waiting for 20 years for my own horse. She is a 5 year old, never raced and I hope to event her. She is bold, smart and sensible and I have fallen in love with her.!
Anyways, Looking forward to chatting with you.
Jenny

My name is Jessica, I am 20 years old and from Northern California.
I am owned by the handsome 14.1 hand Sportpony/Paint gelding Tashe ("A lil' bit o' Heaven). He is 18 years old, and was my first horse, taking me over as "his girl" when I was 9. He is the boldest, safest horse I have ever ridden cross country and would do anything for me.
I am also owned by the darling bay Sportpony mare, Cherry ("Cherries on Top") who is 9 years old and 13.2 hands. She moves like the greatest of warbloods and could jump the moon!
And the newest is Allie (registered name: Luckys Mitey Mite), a 4 years old, 15.1 hand OTTB. She joined the family this last Sunday and I couldn't be happier! She is a beautiful dark bay (with incredible bloodlines- she's actually Smarty Jones' cousin, for one!) and I hope to event with her.
I have two "lap dogs" (or so they think!), Sassy and Shadrach. Both are black tri Australian Shepherds and they always make sure I don't forget them in the house when it's horsey time!
I am a hunter/jumper rider, wanting to start eventing. I give english riding lessons, train "problem" horses, and volunteer at a NARHA facility (a major blessing!). I am also a Mary Kay Beauty Consultant, which allows me the flexibilty to be with my horses for hours each and every day!!
