YAY FOR BF TRAINING! I plan to take him on a trail ride this next month, but unfourtunatly, he has been present for the majority of my Mare's training, so has heard a lot of horror stories (and seen some magnificant bruises). It's hard for him to tell the diff between "no, that was when I was asking for a collected left canter lead, she perfect on the trails, I promise!" haha

I'm Tim aka dadof3 (not including 2 NRTB's). Single dad of 3 daughters..2 teenagers!. My oldest daughter (16) and I adopted 2 TB mares last summer. Both 10 yr olds, never raced. It's been a slow process..wish I had found this site a long time ago! My daughter's horse, Claire, is working toward Eventing/HJ. Dee Dee is my ticket to quality time with a teenage daughter who otherwise wouldn't have time for dad!
We live in Louisville KY. Self employed but spend most of my time as a taxi service for the girls or at the barn.

Welcome to exracers Tim! I'm sure you will have lots of fun here.
Where did you adopt the TB's from?

Thanks for the welcome! Will post pic's soon. Should post some of the before and after pics.
They were dumped on an acquaintance of mine about 4 years ago by a local racing breeder/trainer who was trying to get his stable reorganized. A 2 month stay turned into 3 1/2 years with no $$ for feed, vet, etc. She had limited space available for her 4 QH's so it was a real burden. She finally tracked him down and gave him the ultimatum to move them or lose them. He chose the latter!
My daughter had been leasing a OTTB at the barn where she has been taking lessons for the past 7 years, but lost the lease when the owners moved him. Fortunately, this happened about the time our friend needed to move DeeDee and Claire, so we were in a position to take them on as a long-term project.
Both had been neglected, lost weight and had been nothing more than pasture mates for her QH's.
We moved them to a great facility in February and have been making steady progress with them. They are both very green; Claire had never been ridden. She has about 50 hours under saddle so far and is doing very well. It's been amazing what a little effort, patience and time has done for them. Both are real sweethearts.
We have been able to put some of the pieces of their history together. I have a clear trail on DeeDee...her dam is Summertime Delight, sire is Naevus and is a full sister to Jennifer's Delight who is owned by the family of a close friend of mine from college. They had lost track of DeeDee after a partnership broke up. (ex-partner was the guy who dumped DeeDee on my friend!)
Claire's background is less clear. We were told her registered name is Clearly Spoken. However internet searches show that name attached a lightly raced colt? The foaling date is about the right time but nothing else really matches.
I'm trying to track down the guy who dumped them in an attempt to get registration info on DeeDee and to clear up confusion on Claire and get registration transfered if possible. Any advise on getting this done would be appreciated.
This process has been a great experience so far, despite some minor set-backs along the way. I worked on a broodmare farm in college and have always loved being around horses. Until this opportunity, I just lived vicariously through Ellie's (my daughter) riding lessons and shows.
Besides getting 2 great horses, I have the added benefits of lots of quality time with Ellie and far more productive therapy for me while going through a divorce!
Thanks again for the warm welcome!

I don't stop here often enough to give all the new folks a 'heartfelt and hardy, Welcome Aboard'. Tim(dadof3) your daughter, Ellie is so fortunate to have a Dad like you. You jump right in amongst us and let us hear from you. On your thoughts of therapy after a marriage break-up; you've heard the saying, 'the best thing for the inside of a person is the outside of a horse'.
Again, Welcome, everyone!! And pictures are a must!! I gotta confess, I'm way behind on getting some pix I've promised posted on the board.

I am a 42 YO former exercise rider turned elementary school counselor and at home trainer. Mom of one 11 YO daughter that rides like breathing. Married to a husband that gave up motorcycles for horses. We live on an 8 acre farm outside of Richmond,Va with a romantic, spelled expensive to heat, old farmhouse. Our herd currently consists of Rush Straight Thru, a 7 YO OTTB with a chip in his knee, a 13 YO Welsh gelding named Mahogany's Pride reminiscent of Merrylegs in mischevious personality, Lily Valley's Carmin Santana, an 11 YO saddlebred that looks like bone china but is very tough and surprise, can jump, Waterlilly Waltz a 17 YO QH mare in foal, our first foal, and finally Rascal otherwise dubbed Copper Elegance a 5YO smarty that likes to try all the gates. We also have Reesee the dog, Tootsie the goat and Dinah the cat and some chickens. I really like this site and felt at home immediately.

Just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Paula, I'm a grad student at Kansas State University, which means I'm broke and have no life. I just turned 27 and decided to get a "Happy Birthday to Me" present, an OTTB. Her name is Music's Day a.k.a. Music, and she is an absolute sweetheart. I recently went on a trail ride with the barn owner, and we got to a place where we could let the horses stretch their legs. BO has to hold her horse back, and she was still easily outdistancing us. Finally catch up, and BO comments, "That's a racehorse?!" I kindly reminded her she is a failed racehorse, and now we see why I also have 4 other pets; 3 cats (Max, Mischief, and Marshmallow), and 1 husband, Tom. I've been lurking for awhile, and I really like the community spirit. I look forward to all the answers to my dumb questions
