Michelle -- The pictures loaded unusually slow for me too, so I don't think it's just you. Probably either the file size or the server hosting them. If you right-click the pic (or x-box), get the image location from the Properties, copy and paste that into your browser. Hopefully that'll pull them up for you.
Niaru -- What fun! You mentioned the gray who acts nasty...King was that way exactly when I got him. He never bit, but he sure threatened to bite and kick. Didn't want ~anyone~ near or in his stall. It was because his stall at the track was on the end, and people would cut the corner and invade his personal space. He hated it.
I spent a month with him in his stall, just sitting nearby. And coming in and going out constantly, and walking by. He threatened a lot like that at first, and I just ignored him and went about my business. Throughout that month (and with groundwork), he stopped that behavior.
One month later, he was a different horse. Instead of turning his butt when you came in, he would nicker as people walked by and welcomed visitors.
Anyway, just wanted to let you know my input on that. I'm leaning towards the first and last horses. I agree with Dineen that the last mare's hind end looks funky, but I sure would like to see a better confo pic.

For your constructive comments!
I am going to try and get a vet check on the chestnut to evaluate her bowed tendon this week. I am really torn between the 1st (I need to see her outside her stall, to see how big she is, how level, and how she moves), the 2nd, and the 4th. Lisann, I'll try to post a a pic I took today of that last one (if Zen is willing!!) where she stands better.
Keep the comments coming you all!!

I too am a fan of 1 and 4.
#1 does look perhaps a little bit downhill--a good thing for a racehorse, not so good for collected activities. Her neck is set on well. Her withers are not prominent. She will need a wider treed saddle. Nothing bad--this mare has a lot going for her. She looks like a very nice mare. A horse that is willing to really try for you might not be physically perfect for the job, but that "try" is priceless.
#2--sorry, don't give her a second look. Her pasterns are way too long. She is several different horses sort of stuck together. She has very high, very athletic withers. She is probably quite the athlete with those long levers for her muscles. However, her legs are too light for the power this mare can generate. She may be the best athlete here, but she isn't going to stay sound. She already has a bow--not a problem in itself--but her conformation is going to lead her to injury after injury.
#3--It is going to be hard to get a saddle to fit this mare well. It doesn't look like she can generate much power in the rear end. You already have gotten negative vibes.
#4-Hard to get a good look. What I can see looks very smoothly put together. She looks like a very sweet mare. It will be interesting to see more pictures of her.
Having had to replace a couple of much-loved horses, I would have to tell you that personality is probably going to be the most important factor. You are going to have to let your heart play a very important role in your decision. You were blessed with an unbelievably sweet mare. You will not be satisified with anything less. The initial cost of a horse pales in comparison with the upkeep. Don't rush yourself. Look for that horse that speaks to your heart. Linda

[glow=red,2,300]Number One![/glow]
She has the kindest face...and not too bad conformation. She would be my vote. What are you planning on doing with this new beast?? ;D

A horse is "wasp-waisted" if its barrel is very thin in front of its hindquarters. It's a conformation flaw, although horses in racing condition may look wasp-waisted, but not really be - just need more groceries to look like most people think riding horses should!

Thanks Lisann! I hadn't heard that term before. Is there also a term for the opposite? The horses with HUGE barrels and itty bitty hind quarters?

LOL! I spent all night thinking of Deena (the 2nd one). It's funny, but when I looked at her she made the other ones pale conformation wise. I think she's got good bone for her body, and she's not THAT bulky in person, it's just that in that photo she's all crammed together because of the cold. And the pics I took of her in her stall are even worse. Of course I may very well see Rita's Cargo and fall in love I agree she looks a little downhill, but so did MY Rita... Ok, Zen, thanks, I'll send you pics of the 4th one today. She's a charm, really. But she's not as pretty as Deena....and I, too, thought something was weird in her hind end when I saw her.

RITA'S CARGO!!!! That is just TOOOO cool, are the horses related? They might be - that is too much of a coincidence. I actually loff her best too...from the photos, but you're right - a photo is nothing like seeing them in person. If River Daylite isn't what you like in person, then don't get her, cause I bet your intuition is exactly on the money. I don't personally like Deana's Slew much from her photo. Her legs look a mess and very light-boned for her body size. Her expression looks mean too! ( and she bites! Believe me, a biter is a pain in the....well EVERYWHERE! tee hee) How fun to go looking at mares at the track. Sorry your minivan didn't want to go... I HATE when that happens. I got our Toyota Tundra stuck yesterday trying to get back to the barn with sawdust bales. Had to put a couple shovels of used bedding under the wheels to get her out! Well, let us know what happens. I LOFF Rita's Cargo!

These are the pics Niaru sent me of You're So Charming. What do you think? She seems a little straight up and down in the back legs, but I think that could just be the way she's standing to fit in the isle. Would want to see her in person though, she does look sweet.
