Ok, I made it down the track this am (despite my minivan deciding it was just too darn cold for it to keep running --I had to pull over quickly, on the highway, which earned me a nice chat with a state trooper, but with some dry gas in the fuel tank we made it!!) I narrowed it down to these sweeties: This one I only saw in her stall, we couldn't find her trainer. What a cutie! Such a sweet face, and friendly mare. Small tho, from what I could tell. I'll go back to take a closer look. And guess what...her name is Rita's Cargo...she's 5 or 6 yo. This one (Deena's Slew, 5 yo) really impressed me. She has great conformation, was very sweet with me (even tho her trainer said she sometimes bites.. ) very nice mare BUT she has a bowed tendon. She's back into training tho, and jogging her I couldn't see much...but bows are pretty straight forward, and rest does the trick, right? (that's my question) This one (River Daylite) was my favorite on the Canter site, but I was a little disappointed. Although she's sweet and seems sound (trainer said she ran away with him the other day and worked harder than ever, and that if she's going to be lame, she will within a few days, and if she's NOT lame, then she has legs of steel!!!) there's something about her conformation that I don't quite like. She looks better on the pic than in person. And this one ( You're So Charming, 5 yo) is much cuter in person than on this pic! Very sweet, and nicely put together. So, what do ya'll think?!!!

Ooohh I loff horse shopping. I REALLY like the last one, don't ask me particularly why, just TEXTsomethingTEXT. Bows are my specialty, and as long as you know how old they are they don't have to be a problem. Both my OTTBs have bows (Avalon has one old front one and competed with no problem for years before bowing a hind). Jaspers looked like a banana when I got him but now looks great.

Im far from one to give advise, but I like the first and second. Not sure why i dont like the third but the 4th looks like the hind end is kinda funky. I like the firsts conformation best. They're cuties though.. Which one are you leaning towards?

ohhhhhhh.... Deena's Slew has my vote - she is a chestnut, a mare and she bites men.. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
that's my biased view anyway.. i don't know enough about horses to comment on rest.
Good luck with whomever you choose.. Bindi.

BTW just looking again and I have to say I don't like the look of the head and neck on the second one. It looks like she's a little too thick around the throat to easily come round from the poll. I could be wrong though, I do always look for a nice throat.

I don't know why...probably because all the horses are really 'clicked ' with were mares...
I really like Deena's Slew...on this pic she's all hunched up because it's SO cold. But she's very nicely put together, I liked her the best. When asked to jog in the shedrow she picked up the canter LOL. What holds me back is the bow, suffered back in November according to her trainer. I'm all ready to give her a few more months off so that it completely heals, but will she ever be suitable for low-level eventing...?
I like Rita's Cargo too. In person, she's got the SWEETEST face of all.
But the other two aren't bad, seem sound, and very sweet/willing.
The nice grey whose pic I posted on the other thread is a WITCH!!! Tries to bite and launches at you when you get close to the stall. Too bad.
I'm going back there in a few days, I need more 'exposure'!!!

Oh Niaru! How fun!!! I can't tell you which one is best. I LOVE them all. So what that means is Get them all! ;D
I don't own horses with decent conformation so I wouldn't even begin to judge by that. I think they are all four beautiful. Although the Rita reference I take as a sign and something about the face of the last one. I LOFF it!!
Please keep us posted. What is your heart telling you???

NIaru if you like the one with the bow, don't let it put you off. Avalon evented with hers at the lower levels. I always think at least you know what you're dealing with with a bow. You can always get it ultrasounded to see which tendon has been damaged. You'll be making a slow start with her retraining anyway, which will give additional time to heal. Oh and gotta give 'em MSM to help build good tissue.

Rita's Cargo looks slightly downhill in the photo. I don't think that's desireable for eventing.
I like Deena's Slew - perhaps her neck looks better when she doesn't have it so high up? (you said she's not standing relaxed really)
#3 looks light-boned in its legs compared to its body size. #4 looks wasp-waisted.
Good luck finding the right one!

what is "wasp-waisted"? It sounds like a bad summer day to me
