ABowls- did you get them because of Einstein and I? LOL! You are going to absolutely love it. It is slow getting into it, but once she goes back in time it is absolutely phenomenal. You won't regret reading it, I promise.
HokieThea- I really liked book 6, also. I just re read it again and liked it just as much as the first time around! Book 5 was a little slow, I thought, and she definitely picked up the pace in A Breath of Snow and Ashes.

Yep I finished Outlander this weekend and went directly out on Monday evening to buy the next two. I was pretty unhappy that Claire went back to the 1940s but I'm continuing to read and hoping that somehow this will resolve itself in a way that I can be ok with. I'm most upset that she's now 48. I'm guessing that she goes back to Jamie at some point but can her daughter go back? It seems like such a waste of 20 yrs. I'm freaking out a bit about it right now but hoping that it will be ok somehow.
Oh and BTW. Jamie is HOT! He's not AT ALL my usual type. I tend toward the smaller browner ones ;D but I'm willing to make an exception in this case. Yum!

Everyone freaks out when they start the 2nd I actually sobbed, which is so pathetic but you just get so emotionally involved in these characters! *Swoon* over Jamie. I have now decided that I should marry him, LOL! Some of the things that he says are just incredible.. I feel like this series should be a must read for men!

Oh, 48's not THAT old! And just get used to feeling out of control. Gabaldon will always give you something to worry about with her characters, but you'll just keep coming back for more.

I felt the same way about the 20 missing years, at first...what a darn SHAME!!! But no worries, you'll know what Jamie has done in those 20 years. And I agree Ann, not that old...plenty of life left for both of them, ROFL!!!

Sorry I didn't mean to say that 48 was old. It's just a little older than I usually think of people in passionate relationships. I know (or I rather hope) that it is still possible to be passionate at 48. It's just not the age I'm used to reading about in that type of relationship. Heck when she said she was 28 in Outlander I was a bit taken aback and that's four years younger than me. I guess I can assume that they won't have anymore kids .

Niaru I thought of Claire and Jamie in their 20s/30s throughout probably the first 3 books. While I *know* that 20 years have gone past, it just doesn't compute with my mental image of them. I think I always think of them so young because they just never slow down. They have more energy than I do and I'm 23!

A few years ago I bought a paperback copy of "Drums of Autumn" by D. Gabaldon not knowing that there was a series of "Outlander" by her. I never got around to getting anymore of the earlier novels in the series. I was engrossed with the 1070 pages of "Drums of Autumn", though.

Oh Deb you MUST get Outlander. I like Drums of Autumn, Fiery Cross, and an Echo in the Bone (the last 3 books released) but Outlander (the 1st book) is SO much better.
Did you guys hear that she has a short story out in a collection of short stories called Songs of Love and Death? It's the story of Roger's parents and what happened to his dad. I'm dying to read it but I don't particularly want to buy the whole book to read one story that is approximately 15 pgs. long and I can't find it in a bookstore or library. I might have to suck it up and buy it on Amazon.

abowls, I think Songs of Love and Death is a collection of stories by different authors, and one is by Gabaldon. Ask your librarian to get it for you. Many libraries have statewide resource sharing systems, and some use WorldCat, which allows them to borrow materials from just about anywhere.

Ad, yes that's what it is. I'm relatively uninformed about library systems. I checked to see if Loudoun County libraries had it and they didn't and I thought that was that. My SIL informed me yesterday that if ANY library in the surrounding area has it they can borrow it for me so it's one of my missions for the day. SIL said she had found it in her library and it was interesting but definately not worth buying the whole book to read.
