I don't READ romance novels! I don't. I'm too literary, don't you know. So why did I finish book 3 at lunch today and the first thing I did when I got back to work was check out book 4. The cliffhangers are killing me.

Because even though they are fluff, they are FUN fluff and not just the hot romance but the edge of the seat thriller stories!

I know what you mean Ann, but a good story is a good story, right? ;D I almost did not read the series just because it is categorized as romance, but I do like historical fiction so gave it a shot. And the writing is far better than you get in most fluff.

Mwahahaha! I just knew you'd get hooked! I don't DO Romance novels either, Ann...and I've read and re-read all Outlanders books. I just finished Sarah Donati's Into the Wilderness series. Not as gripping/eccentric as Gabaldon but a very good read too!

You know, one of the things I like is that Gabaldon doesn't take herself too seriously. The books are just fun.
I haven't read an epic story like these in a long time. I told my oldest daughter if she wanted to know why she felt so neglected during the summer of her birth (1981) she should read Sacajawea, by Anna Lee Waldo. I remember I couldn't put that one down, so I held the baby with one hand, and the big, fat paperback with the other.
Oh, dear. I was a bad mom from the beginning.

Today at work (remember, I am a librarian) some women asked me what I'd been reading lately. I said I was too ashamed to say. They immediately said, "Romance novels. You are reading romance." But they said it kindly. I hung my head and mumbled, "Outlander," at which they all laughed and said they were only surprised that I hadn't read them all already.
There are others like me.

I just started reading Outlander 2 days ago and I'll probably finish it today. I can't put it down! I'm sneaking it under my desk while at work, lol I can't wait to get my hands on the next one. My friend has been non stop nagging me to read these for a couple of months and I was like eh- I glanced at the first couple of pages and got turned off by the language. I almost put it down when I sat down to actually read it because I thought Frank was so meh. I decided I would just wait till she traveled through time and then if I still wanted to put it down I would. Well OMG I have not been able to stop reading it. I'm a complete addict. AD- at least you aren't reading the Harlequin books! Talk about romance novels! This is so much more than a romance novel. Although I am completely in love with Jamie. What a man!

Yeah, Suzy. Buy a copy. Don't check one out from the library, because you don't want the librarian to know how low you've sunk. I am sorry to be part of the bad influence. (My copy of book five finally arrived!)

I finished book 3 yesterday on my lunch break. Controlled myself to not go to the library after work, but to go handle some actual responsibilites. I am almost breaking out in a sweat to get to the library on my lunch break at get #4!!!! I'm very stressed out- I have to have more Claire and Jamie. I bawled like a complete idiot in the 2nd one- like my face totally puffed up from crying. So pathetic. Luckily, my friend has all of them, but she just started 4 and I can't wait. The librarian won't know a thing

It has been about 10 years since I read the Outlander series and I remember being completely engulfed by it (and I agree samantha- Jamie is the ultimate man; I wish I could go back through time and find one like him ). I am thinking I need to read them again, especially since there have been more published.

I finished book 4 over the weekend and am starting 5. From the Amazon reviews it looks like this is probably people's least favorite of the series, but that is OK. The reviews of 6 were very good so I'll definitely read this one. It is 1440 pages- it better be good! Oh I totally swoon over Jamie. He gives me hot flashes, LOL! I want to go back in time and find a rugged Scot like that. I've been discussing him with my friend, who has read the series up to book 3 and is reading the rest kind of with me- she is enamored with him, too. I think you would be hard pressed to find a woman who doesn't think he is perfection.
