My daughter and her friends are OBSESSED with the Twilight series! They talk about it constantly, and Shelby wants all of the merchandise. (Which she is not getting...) Are they really pretty harmless and appropriate for preteen/ young teen girls? Of course Shelby has read all of the books now, it's a little too late to ask.

Oh yes, my 12 year old read them ALL in a flash and then saw the movie too. A friend of mine was addicted to the books too, lol!

HT, it's not bad. The first three books talk about kissing and that's it. THere's not a lot of inuendo. I'm about 200 pages into the fourth book and they had sex, but there was no detail.
Niaru, it's crazy. I can't put them down.

I agree, I don't know what it is about them, but I'm obsessed. I'm 25! My mom is reading and loving them, too. I saw the movie first, and then decided to read the books. I just LOVE <3 Alice. She is my favorite character in all the books. Bella is a little whiny for my liking. Anyhow, I just love the books.

OK I saw this movie and HATED IT. Thought it was ridiculous. Couldn't turn it off because.. well.. Robert Pattinson is a hottie, but the actual movie was really bad.
My friend then proceeded to bully me into reading the first one... I could NOT put it down yesterday. I was up half the night. I read 285 pages in one evening and all I can think about now is when can I get out of work so I can go read the rest!
I am totally hooked and now need to read the rest of the series... especially if they eventually have sex- there is so much tension it is crazy.
MTA: I love Bella. I love that she is dark and unique- different from the gossipy girls at the school. And I love how she looks at Edward and sees all the little nuances of his personality.

Finished the 2nd one this weekend and my friend is bringing me the last two. I love them and really am hooked on these books! I felt stupid crying over the 2nd one- a book geared towards young adults made me sob.
Any other Twilight fanatics?

I read them. The movie wasn't the worst I've ever seen. Left a bit to be desired though. I took DH..that was a big mistake that won't be repeated.
Loved the books though.

Oh Lis I totally agree. I had rented it and my BF ended up going downstairs and turning on Sports Center halfway through. And usually he handles chic flicks well.
I just finished the last book- I just LOVED the way it ended. Don't want to say any more for fear of spoiling but the last book was great.

The last book of the series was my favorite (just finished this week). I haven't seen the movie yet but I think I will after reading the series.

Jess, I have a rule about watching the movie after I read a book and for Twilight I broke the rule and was not disapointed at all. DH watched the movie twice. I have NEVER known him to watch a movie twice, but it's that good.

Okay, I will watch the movie then. I heard the movie The Notebook was good and haven't seen that yet either but read the book and loved it.

Have you guys read the partial draft of Midnight Sun that Stephanie Meyers has posted on her website? It is SOO good, you have to read it. It is Twilight from Edward's point of view... it explains a lot about him and his motives for the whole series. I just wish she would finish it!

For crap's sake, I read the first book in 6 hours. Then started on the second last night. I finally put it down at AM only because I had to get up at 5:30 for work. Not liking the second as much as the first, seems a little predictable but I'm only 200 pages into it. Why oh why did I let Sam talk me into reading these books?! I can see today is going to spent reading as well. I have already ridden 9 horses and it's supposed to be 90 out today, so I think sitting inside in the AC for a while is a good excuse to finish off #2 and if my neighbor is home, grab #3. just in case I can't wait (sad to admit!) to read the one that's from Edward's point of view, how cool will that be?!

HAHA I love it, M I didn't like the second very much but I really liked the 3rd and 4th. You can read Midnight Sun at any point after you have read Twilight. Here is the direct link to it: www.stepheniemeyer.com/pdf/midnightsun_partial_draft4.pdfIt is awesome... I wish she would finish it though so I could buy it. I think you should definitely sit in the AC today and read about vampires I honestly can't think of a better way to spend a crazy hot day.
