Hey everyone... Just thought I'd pop in and ask: Who is your favorite racehorse, past or present? I am a Ruffian fanatic (although too young to have seen her live), I have done alot of reading about her and watched all the video I can. I'm jealous of those that actually got to see her run, in person or on TV.
So who is your favorite out there?

Me too - Secretariat is the greatest I like Citation too. Right now, my favorite has to be Rags to Riches

War Emblem (second of course to Dunkin) Dunkin just didn't hit the big time like he did.

Easy Goer was one of my favorites. I used to route for him against Sunday Silence when I was a kid. One that I personally handled and always adored was a mare named Fortunate Outlook. The used to nicker for me as soon as she heard me pull up to the barn. She was absolutely the sweetest mare. I follow her babies as much as possible. She'd be about 18 now. Last I heard she was in Florida.

Ruffian is my favorite. I was also to young but with the help of DVD and TIVO I did get to see her races and her tragic story. I also read on her any chance I get. Barbaro was also one of my favorites even before he won the derby. I feel both of these horses had something really special....

it's hard to pick just one, but I'd have to say Ruffian for my past favorite
we had an awesome little pacer out here a few years ago named WL Developes Leauge. I loved watching him. He ran until they forced him to retire due to his age.
no one from the present has really captured my heart. However I am tracking the career of a young standardbred named "Drive By Shoeing" on my virtual racing software just becasue I thought it was a greta name!

Secretariat, hands down. I can't even remember when I started watching racing on TV... tiny, tiny kid cheering them on with my dad! But I clearly remember Riva Ridge (a stablemate of Secretariat that ran the year before him) and I remember just falling in LOVE with that big red horse when I was nine... the ONLY chestnut I've ever liked!! ;D
In the 80s, my crush was on Gate Dancer.
Cigar is another of my favorites. A really classic TB.

teach....I have a gelding in the barn by Gate Dancer. He's so stinking athletic it is unreal! He can go all day long. In fact I took him on a hunter pace a year ago!

I didn't see him run, but Secretariat is one of my favorites. So is Gallant Fox.
I was in 3rd grade in 1977, the year my dad plunked me down in front of the TV for the KY Derby, and told me that Seattle Slew was the "favorite horse." So I rooted for Slew and wondered why the announcer kept saying "Run, Dusty, run!"
Anyway, I was hooked after that, watched A&A duel the next year, and then Spectacular Bid and Genuine Risk ....
Favorite horse running now is the gritty Perfect Drift.

Man O'War is my favorite- but I am obviously wayyy to young to have ever seen him... i found a video clip a few years ago of him running and it was amazing how he bounded across the track.... breathtaking! Saint has Man o'War all over his bloodlines That said, I read a book on Ruffian when I was young and have loved her ever since... my favorite filly hands down... brave, brave girl I go to a dressage show that is a short trail ride away from where Secretariat was born... he was an amazing horse... But i am too young to have seen any of them

I had to laugh at this because I borrowed that shirt from my MIL and I was swimming in it! I'd only been on him twice and didn't really know what to expect. We had fun though. He also pulls a cart. His owner used to drive him all over the woods and trail blaze. It has been a few years but I think that would be so much fun! I think he's 8 years old this year and may likely be for sale by the end of the year. I don't know for sure. I took him on that hunter pace and jumped him over all sorts of stuff. He'd never jumped before. He can be a little silly with his head but overall he's such fun. I always said he'd make a great eventer. He's very catty.

When I was a kid the Trotters were all the rage. My favorites were Idéal du Gazeau and Ourasi. Such champions, and such characters.
Then I saw footage of those Secretariat races...wow.

The first horse I really remember rooting for in a race was Winning Colors back when she won the Derby. I don't remember exactly when it was, but I couldn't have been older than ten.
Modified to add: I looked her up, she was foaled in 1985 so she ran in the Derby in 1988, and I wasn't even seven years old. I can't believe I remember that so clearly. I wanted her to win because 1) she was a girl, and 2) she was grey and therefore, beautiful and had to win.
