Secretariat - I was 9 years old and had every newspaper clipping I could get my hands on. And Gate Dancer and Tank's Prospect are my new mare's grandsires. So they are now in my faves - I remember them too and thought it was great that my mare (who was a terrible racer) had famous relatives!

My all time favorite is Secretariat. Barbaro is my hero though. It's not really fair to ask for favorites though, because I also was in front of the TV for Ruffian's match race and Riva Ridge's also. Ruffian was quite the girl!!!! I may be in QH/Stock horse country, but I am a race fan, too. Regretfully though, I've never gotten to be exposed to the Harness Racing of the Standardbreds.

Kelso and Native Dancer. I was lucky enough to see both of them when I was a little girl

oh my!! I can make a long list here!! Of course most will be unknown
On The Road Again - first look at him was him walking off the truck after Rumpel bought him, sad looking little bugger he was, undersized, motheaten coat (shedding, not sick) and a serious case of the baby uglies. Watched him grow to the champion he was. Clang - son of Crash. He showed up in Alberta in about 1979, nice horse, never really reached his potential for some reason Storm - full brother to Smog, raced in Alberta his whole career. Baron Storm, son of the aforementioned Storm. Nice colt, watched Monk set track records with him. Young Cardigan - an Aussie import. I remember Junior well, classy old horse when Downey picked him up and brought him west. Probably the noisiest horse in the whole barn, he would start screaming at the drop of an oat can, and keep it up until fed - rather awkward as I fed earlier than did Dave's crew. Fleeting Forbes - quite easily the meanest horse I ever knew. Was the only horse that, at age 13, needed kicking chains over his back in a race, not a kicking strap, but chains. He died a couple of years after they retired him - literally pined for the track. Tara Petra - my sweet girl. Trained her for a few years, took her from 3000 claimers to 18000. Big Tee - California import, my first (and probably worst) race horse.
RE: WL DEVELOPS LEAGUE I didnt realise that Sam and Jamie owned him and the transfer of ownership was just a few years ago.....odd that on an old horse like that

I don't think there is anything prettier than the video clip of Greyhound and Sep Paulin. Arkle ranks up there with the bestest of the best.

Too many to choose from. Damascus, Secretariat, Ruffian, Genuine Risk and Affirmed are all time favorites. Hard not to like Funny Side and John Henry. Feel bad for War Admiral who despite the movie portrayal was truly a little horse with a big heart himself. Then there was the war horse of war horses Exterminator, from the book written about him Old Bones. Often wonder what Timely Writer would have done as a sire had he not had a devastating breakdown in what was supposed to be his final race. As for current I still like Curlin.

Another vote for Secretariat! I still get goosebumps and a lump in my throat when I watch his victory in the Belmont. I believe he's the greatest there ever was and ever will be. It could also be that I'm biased...he's Boy's grandpa ;D
I have a lot of favorites, but he wins hands down with me.

Got lot's of favorites, but the top of my list is Alydar, Blue's great grand-sire, and the horse he most resembles from his pedigree.
The first races I recall watching were those with Seattle Slew, whom I also adore. But the next year, I was just getting ready to turn 4 and paid much more attention. Alydar stole my heart and there's never been another racehorse to top him (Blue is my favorite horse overall though). I so agonized over those races, and poor Affirmed is as close as I've ever come to hating a horse.
I've grown to respect and admire Secretariat and Ruffian, even though I didn't get to see them go, and you can't like TBs and not admire Man O'War. I was just at the KHP and it's simply amazing to see his 28 foot stride laid out.
Genuine Risk was another big favorite of mine. John Henry (rest his soul) will always be a favorite as well. Alysheba, Easy Goer and Criminal Type all earned my instant admiration from their famous father.
I actually was a Sea Hero fan during his Derby run, and since he's Blue's dad, I've become an even bigger fan.
Each year I pick a TC race horse to root for, of those recent ones that I really latched on to: Smarty Jones and Rags to Riches.

Seattle Slew! He really got me interested in racing I remember seeing him win the Champagne on TV and decided then he would win the Derby and he did on my 13th B-day. I got to see him live at the preakness and belmont and then many years later probably "97 I went to 3 chimneys to visit and could only get pics of him in his stall cause it was the time of day that he rested!

One of my favorites that hasn't been mentioned is Buckpasser. I just love him. I have seen many of his races on DVD and youtube. His "who do you think you are passing me" attitude is so fun! I also like Majestic Prince. I've only seen him on video but he was not ignorable. I can't imagine seeing him in person.. he was a real looker and there was just something about him that commanded attention. And for the OTTB I used to have's pedigree.. my favorites would be Nasrullah and his best sons Bold Ruler his great grandpa and Nashua gr-great grandpa And Sir Gallahad III.

"Carry Back" - the little Thoroughbred (and I do mean "little") that was a long shot and shocked the racing world by winning the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness in 1961 and also many other stakes races!
