For anyone in the St. Louis area -
CANTER of IL needs a foster home in the area ASAP. If you think you might be interested, or know someone who might be, PLEASE let me know.
Please help us make a difference by hands on care of a transitioning horse!
HOW LONG: The foster home sets the time limit if any that the horse may stay. Since we have no central farm and no trailer and must rely on other volunteers, we do ask for suitable notice before moving a horse. The time period for the immediate need case will be indefinite - until the horse is transitioned into a new home or until our current foster home has space available in late April 2003 - whichever comes first.
EXPENSES OF FOSTER CARE: Foster homes are reimbursed for any veterinary, farrier, or special diet needs of the fostered horse. Other expenses such as hay, grain, bedding are donated by the foster home. Your donation of costs to care for a foster horse are a tax deductible charitable donation!
TYPES OF FOSTER HOMES: In this case we need home that simply provide a refuge for a horse ready to meet a new owner.
REQUIREMENTS: The horse must have a separate “get acquainted” area where it maybe turned out alone to meet new horses over the fence until it is safe to put them together. Safe and sufficient fencing. Access to shelter. You will need to fill out an application and have your place inspected prior to approval.
THEIR PERSONALITIES: Most people are surprised at the excellent ground manners of the track horses. Although they might be high strung when they arrive, turn out reduces that extra energy. Remember these horses are used to being stalled 23 hours a day! Access to turn out makes a huge difference.
