I'm off to go clean Nate's sheath!!
Dur to yesterdays Friday Fun Five, I made a check of all three of them, and yup, Nate needs his done.
I don't know whether to thank Adcooper for the reminder, or to fly her out her, hand her the gloves and bucket and let her clean away ;D
BWT, I've never cleaned one before, but will have vet supervision at ALL times

Gotta love those geldings... and you can't beat excalibur sheath cleaner. Oh and message from Nate - any chance of warmish water?

Well, there was warm water. The a$$ kicked me in the stomach, hard enough, no damage, but I was MAD So I thought I was smarter then him and came back with 4ccs of Rompum and tried again, still no dice. He ended up with a lip chain, a twitch and the opposite front leg held up. Oh, did I mention the 4cc of Rompum?! Never once did he hang it out, I had to go find it, he was a little unsteady from the drugs but the still kept trying to take my head off. After I was done, I was sitting with him to watch him come out of the drugs, and he just hung that Noodle out. Very clean I might add The moral of my story: WHATEVER the vet charges, I'll pay it next time! PS He kicked Steve and crunched his foot, good thing it was snow/mud on the ground and his foot sank. He was actually better for me, go figure

I'll just put my .02 in now, too late, but anyways... I WON'T do my gelding, he requires drugs, and I just tell my vet every spring, 'guess what you get to do??' Hehehe...

It helps to work on desensitizing that area before you just grab it and start working! My husband found that out when he got kicked hard in the shin....

So how do you know that it has to be done? Since Grace hangs it out every chance he gets, you would think it would be dirty, but it doesnt look dirty at all. Do you just do it as routine yearly maintenance - or wait till it's obviously dirty?

Other than the beans, you'll know if it needs it. They get that falky skin unk on them and its just gross. Michelle, I hope you're okay! I was thinking about doing mine this morning since I was grooming a couple of them and they relaxed so much that they "hung low". My biggest problem is that once I start the sheath cleaning Joe gets in line!

I'm almost afraid to ask who Joe is ;D
My dentist also does it as part of her services. My other geldings were champs and could have cared less. But, Nave thinks I'm messing where I oughtn't be messing. It's way to hit or miss and I don't have an hour to brush him so he'll let down. When he does, I can only do a quick clean and that isn't enough.
I just gave up and pay.
Yikes Michelle. Hope you're o.k.

I'm fine! I hav a very small bruise, not NEARLY big enough, and my pride was very damaged, but Nate is clean, and I am fine.
But I WILL pay to have An Lar and Porter done this spring ;D
