Zen Report. Zen seems to be doing fine. Abscess worked it's way out. Am going to ride him today and see how he goes. Now I just have to remember to get my farrier out in the next week or two for a trim and a reset.

Mikhail report!
He's still swollen but in great spirits and took him for a trail ride today to see if I could help the oozing and circulation along. Will sweat it tomorrow if it hasn't gone down any but he felt great under saddle and his eye is bright and alert. Thanks for asking.

Babe Update!
Cypress The Babe is steadily, gradually, better. The lump below her hock is still there, but diminishing. She's not lame. Walks and trots nicely. But on the lunge line she demonstrated a stiff canter. I prefer to think of that as "19-year-old mare in a stall for a month syndrome." Vet coming for shots Friday. I'll seek turn-out and riding permission then!

I wasn't on the list, but I will Forest's injury to the update list..lol.
The gash on his leg looks horrible when I wash and pull all of the crust off of it. Yes, it is still oozing some, but is not swollen any. Yesterday I noticed the beginnings of proud flesh, so now I have to treat that.
What's the best product/home rememdy for it?

Of course you were on the list Johnnie, just hidden in the "et al" part of it!
A friend of mine used a tea tree oil spray for her horse's coronary band wound. Nasty looking proud flesh. She eventually had to get the vet out to debride (?) it.
What do you put on it? I've heard good thing about cut-heal, but never used it. I like the Furazone or homeopathic cream (calendula etc).

Thank you! We've been using the furazone spray. Yesterday I got in there and dug it out myself. It was so disgusting, but had to be done. I hate the way proud flesh always bleeds so badly when you debride it. I've had a question about tea tree oil. I bought some skin ointment stuff for horses that said on the front that it was made with tea tree oil, but then when I read the ingredients, it had melaluca oil instead. Are the 2 the same thing? If so, I know some people who have a melaluca farm and I'll see if I can get us some samples or something.

Hi all. I've been off line for a while, but glad to hear horses are doing better. The news from boo boo Utah is a couple of stitches pulled lose yesterday opening up part of the wound. Shoot! It was looking so good and now there is a quarter size of open flesh. I don't know if it is because I didn't rewrap the pressure bandage tight enough, he shouldn't have had disolvable stitches, or he just bounced around and it opened. However, he looks so cute in his purple vet wrap and green standing wrap on the other leg. Poor guy! Ah well. I will be joining the proud flesh club. For you guys dealing with it, I have had huge sucess using Panacourt when it gets to that stage. My vet gave it to me the last time I had to deal with this. It's a tripple antibiotic I think. Whatever it is, it's magic stuff.
