We have our insurance through Markel and haven't had any problems. A few years ago we had them through Redlands and it was a major nightmare (we finally got our money).

Katie, I got it through the USEA. It's Hallmark Equine. www.hallmarkhorse.com. So far they've been very nice and very thorough.

I've insured three horses, and used it on two on them, both for substantial claims. The first time was on Kate, Ferrari's dam, who somehow trashed a leg turned out while she was being leased by a friend. One of the terms of lease was that she be insured. Well she was in the clinic on IV antibiotics for a week, to the tune of $1000. Insurance paid every cent they were supposed to without any problem. The second was for Ferrari's brother, who coliced, got pneumonia and sepsis while he was in Pennsylvania. Nearly died, and racked up over $4000 bill. Again the insurance company was very sympathetic, supportive and paid up right away. I would not have another horse without insurance if only for the peace of mind. I think some clinics won't even treat your horse unless you have insurance or prove you can pay. That was never a question, thank heavens, but I would not have been able to cough up the cash. I use USEA Insurance, same as Claire.
