I'm sad to say I lost my Zen. It's sudden, but sadly I had to make the decision. His issue was multiple and was not going to be fixable. Liver failure and likely blockage issues caused by tumors. Which likely has something to do with the choke issue he developed a few years ago. I can't really write much more now, I had expected him to be around for a few more years. I felt anyone from the old crowd that might lurk here should know. For the first time in 21 years I have one horse. Guy took it well, but is a bit sad to lose his best friend. Even though he saw Zen after, I don't think it really dawned on him until I turned him out in the outdoor by himself. Flynn taught him the fine art of halter tag. youtu.be/1HWEPik5NJMThe things they put up with: youtu.be/A_-dSbqXFYcAttachments:

Thanks everyone. The barn is not the same without him. I was prepared for him to get old, with turnout blankets and sheets he's never worn. Much as I don't plan to get a horse as big as he was again, I will keep them for now. It was really hard losing him this time of year, October was the month of some of our best trail rides.
I'm not sure Guy can handle the extra attention, it's weird having one after so many years, but no plans to change that.

Does Guy have anyone else he is turned out with at the barn?
Still thinking of you. I hope you are finding peace.

Guy has buddies in his regular turn out. It's when I go out on days they didn't go out, usually weather realated, and I had the opportunity to them out for a bit later in the day or in the indoor arena. Now it's just him. He's probably more OK with it than I am. It's just weird without Zen. Zen was with me for 21 of his 24 years. He always gave me a very enthusiastic welcome and nicker, which Guy would join in. Guy hasn't found his voice without him yet. Zen was like his big brother.
