Who's planning to watch? Who's hoping for weather that allows photography?

I've got my fingers & toes crossed that our cloudy skies clear out - I plan to get quite a few photos - a super moon AND a lunar eclipse?! Can't pass it up!!

Started cloudy, but cleared up nicely at the barn. The weather was near perfect here last night. Did get some pictures, will try to share some tomorrow.

It was pretty cloudy here, then clouds parted and could see the moon, reddish in spots but still white mostly. the moon was also supposed to be much larger than usual, but it looked like a normal sized moon.

Those are great, Zen!! I actually like the last two of the series the best, especially the next-to-last! Beautiful! I took a couple, but they didn't come out great. This was my favorite.

I just tried and changed settings a lot. It's tricky when zoomed in trying slower shutter speed, because the moon is moving.

What lens were you using? And yes, you don't realize how fast the earth is spinning until you put the camera on a few second exposure.

LOL, you're gonna hate me. I was using my new, as of April, a Canon SX60. It's their latest greatest advanced point and shoot, with a 65X optical zoom. I find it a little trickier to use then my old, and still using sometimes SX20, but have absolutely no regrets buying it. As for the spinning earth and objects in the sky. After all, everything is moving. Anyway, at first I thought my old tri-pod was not staying in position. Hey, I was in the dark, after all, light would make getting the exposures right impossible. Then the brain kicked in. That and the 65X zoom probably added to that. It's a good thing the camera keeps all the data for me. Some pics were on auto, the rest were me messing around with the manual and semi-manual settings. It was fun, though the people at the barn probably think I'm nuts.

Hey, I'm impressed! You took some really nice shots!! The point & shoots they are coming out with nowadays are really amazing. Can it shoot in RAW? I assume if it has manual mode, then it probably has RAW. It's getting to where you don't need a big DSLR anymore as long as you have a good eye.

It is incredible, though some of the best pics I ever took in the Everglades was with that old Kodak advanced so many years ago. Too bad Kodak seemed to go backwards after that model instead of forwards. As for my new camera, yes, it can shoot in RAW, but I didn't that night. Actually, keep forgetting it can do that. Will have to play with that some more in the future. The DSLRs still have their place, for those that need truly specialty lenses, not just zooms, and such. At least for a while yet. As for me, a zoom is all I really need and not lugging lenses around is a real plus. I do like having something a bit more then a regular point and shoot. Especially around some of the wildlife that's best to keep a bit of distance from. There are times I miss using my old film camera where not only did I have a lug a few lenses around, but film as well. There was something more challenging and rewarding about making every picture count and not knowing what you really got until it was developed.
