Who all is riding this summer? Where have you been going? I've not had a chance to ride. At all. Every weekend I think I should pull out a horse and ride, and every weekend, I get pulled away by laundry, errands, children...you name it. Sigh. I have four pretty, fat, lazy pasture puffs. Anyone wanna come ride some horses?

Ride? You're supposed to ride them? Like you, with the regular house/yard chores finding time to ride hasn't been happening. They don't seem to mind, though with all the rain pasture time has been limited. Not just because of the mud, but occasionally being under water when the creek overflows. Can't complain too much about that, the Momence, Aroma Park areas are having much more serious flooding issues. We haven't had a full two days without rain for about a month now. The barn has only managed to get half their hay field done, the other half is going to be stalky by the time they get it in. The bad news for a lot of people who have to buy all of their hay is few of the hay guys did hay the one week we had to do any in. They were seeding fields, so there is going to be a lot of overpriced crappy hay on the market when they finally do get a chance to bring it in. Ugh. Much as I know they have to seed their other fields, these guys should, especially when it comes to hay, know you have to hay when the weather is there, not when you want to.
The tornadoes that came through my area last week, one pretty much went over my parents house in Coal City! The only good thing for them was it was not on the ground yet. Took out some trees and moved their horse trailer (3 horse slant gooseneck with dressing room) over 3 feet, but didn't knock it over. Over all pretty lucky, when the tornado did come down it wiped out quite a few houses, took out the stadium at the high school, but missed the school, knocked a communications tower down onto the new fire house, which set off the sprinkler system that fried pretty much all the electronic equipment... Not to mention all the downed power lines, even shut down Interstate 55 for a bit with down power lines. The good thing around here is most people take tornadoes seriously and took shelter in their basements and such, so no fatalities and no serious injuries.

Yep, we are lucky & our hay guy had a good window to get his hay up this year. We have 50 round bales in storage for this winter. Yay! I saw a major hay importer commenting the other day that she was concerned about their stock for this coming winter. I hope your barn can recover some of the hay. I'm worried about later cuttings here as it's been sooo rainy & fields are just not looking good. YIKES about the tornado. Glad that your parents didn't have any damage. That's terrible about the other houses, though. I really worry about tornadoes here as we don't have a safe place in the house nor do we have a storm shelter. I figure the house has survived 115 years, with a tornado going across the woods within a couple of hundred feet behind it one year, and it's still up, so maybe it will last a bit longer until we can get the new place built (with storm shelter).

Ride? You're supposed to ride them? I have all of these things I want to do - build a trail course, etc, but it really is just so much effort. I was hoping to ride this weekend, but it's literally rained all.weekend.long. I'm over it.

Unbound, like you, my house has no particularly safe place for tornadoes. I have two plans. If it's one of those systems like the last one that there was some warning for and I'm home, I'm going to one of two of the bars in town that have basements! LOL, shelter and beer, can't go too wrong. Otherwise, if I'm home and don't have time to get anywhere else, the bathtub under a comforter and some blankets is probably my best bet. Definitely not my favorite plan, but that's life living on a slab of concrete in Illinois' own Tornado Alley. Doesn't look good for drier weather for a while, but here's hoping for some good haying weather. Oh, Guy wants to come down and hang out in your pasture. Anytime! :-) We can put him out there - maybe hubby won't notice....hehe! Careful, that can be easily arranged.
