last night I went to look at something on it. The was a black screen with the message that the "root boot" had failed 
And it was ticking, tried to shut it down but it was gone. All our pictures were on it 
I do have a back-up from about 2 years ago.
Needless to say I will be doing more back-ups from now on.
This was Brian's computer, he called our computer guy and took it right over to him. He had another rebuild one all ready for us. He rebuilds computers for HS kids who can't afford to buy them, so we gave him this one for another one.
