I moved Charm to the big indoor so I can keep riding her during the bad winter months. For a while, due to lack of turnout space, she was confined in a tiny paddock with no room to move, really, add to that icy footing, and I had a winter horse on my hands in the indoor. Squealing, boinking, finding stuff to spook at, I couldn't even jump a cross rail without her turning into a monster. Now that she is in a bigger, snowy (i.e, better footing) paddock things are better, but riding in 10 degree weather is a bit of a challenge especially when snow/ice slide off the indoor roof...!!! She's not that bad, really. But still brings back memories of the younger, boinkier Charm So, does anyone have a "Winter horse"?

Goalie is definitely a Winter Horse. Even as icy as it is he has to be the total Diva. Then he remembers that he is 23 now and slows down real quick.

Yup, but amazingly they are actually pretty careful out in the snow. Now turned out in the indoor with blowing snow and creaking eaves from the wind gusts last night, different story. Definitely no thoughts of doing any riding. Actually, wish I had left the barn a little sooner last night, but ya know, ya get talking to other boarders and the BO.... Drove home in largely white out conditions. Took nearly an hour and a half to drive what's normally about a 20 minute drive, but I made it. Trust me a lot of the people that ended up in the ditch last night did not slide off the road, they lost sight of it and drove off the road. I had to stop several times, because I couldn't see anything ahead of the hood. I could, much of the time, see some of the road out the door window, so that helped keep me on the road. Some of the approaching traffic, thankfully there wasn't much, seemed not to realize they couldn't have my lane. Sheesh. Hope they made it home. Crazy driving in that stuff, but sometimes you get to a point and there is only one direction to go, and that was forward. Tried to wave down a few cars heading out of town, but they kept going. I'm sure they figured out what I was trying to tell them pretty quick.

I definitely have a winter monster! If only the hibernated! Bucking, rearing, cat leaping, barging, galloping on the worlds smallest circle. Oh the joys of an OTTB!

LOL! How old is Rockman?
Charm will be 16 in a few weeks. She *should* know better than yahooeing after ridiculous crossrails. And why IS it that these days she is besides herself when I'm having a jumping lesson, but is perfectly fine when I jump her on my own? Weird. I'll stick to flat lessons for now, I think...!!!

Glad you made it home. We had our first rain just yesterday, Rad(29) is stiff and sore even with the pain meds he's on So is one of my older goats(13), she too is on pain meds. It has been unbelievably cold even for us in the sun state.

He's 13 so should also know a lot better! Nearly pulled me over today went on a full rodeo while lunging and decided he didn't want to go in a circle anymore, he wanted to use the whole school and was taking me with him! Haha you're brave even looking at a jump I will not even think about that until he's been out 24/7 for about 1 month haha!
