I learned to drive in a VW Beetle. It looked about like this:

Ad, I think I found your old Bug. ;D My Impala didn't have the fancy wheels, but had the nicer cloth interior, but otherwise looked like this. My '77 Regal looked a lot like this, only had the Keystone rims. Of course the car I learned to drive stick shift in was a mid '70's Ford Pinto.

Zen, do you still wish you had your impala? LOVE those older cars! My first car was a 84 ford thunderbird, that would die everytime you stopped, or tried to turn. I came efficient at slamming it into neutral while turning, and restarting and not interrupting the turn! Then when I graduated high school my parents bought me a car like this. It was brand new, and I have had Hyundais ever since!!

I loved the Chevy, but there are times I think I'd love to have that old Buick again. The Chevy was bare bones, but the Buick was pretty much fully loaded. Mine had the black/green exterior, but it's landau was more of a silver green then the one in the picture. It was a really nice ride. I sold it when I left for the Air Force.

LOL! The Prius s verrry elegant! Niaru - I LOVE that little, red car! It looks like clockwork. Hmm. I wouldn't be able to fit my dogs in it. We've had 'first car' discussion before : but a classic is a classic! Post the Impala, Zen! Wasn't yours a Citroen, Niaru? Mine was a white Triumph Spitfire with a black soft-top. I was 17 - and didn't even have a driving license at the time. (You wouldn't be able to buy a car, now, without a license!) It was a bit like this: I'll send a picture of the real Spitfire! Oh, Lordie, I thought I was sooo cool! Father had to bank-roll me ... encrypted-tbn1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcR9ifb6U7IAumT-O7Dmne7g2XnuwC8ZoobhlAImS0aZ79l8UwV6Jw

You guys drove stylish, classic cars (yes even Ann's Bug!) My Dyane wasn't very classy, was it. But it had a cloth roof you could open completely, and the Citroën clearance and shocks that made it perfect on dirt roads Plus when it broke down, it was easy to fix (if you knew what you were doing - I didn't, but had plenty of friends who did, lol) I'm thinking of getting a car I could leave at my parent's place so we didn't have to borrow / rent every time we go see them. It's mostly hot and dry there and we don't drive long distance, so at first I wanted a Méhari like this one static.blogo.it/eurocarblog/citroen-mehari-02/citroen_mehari_01.jpgbut they're considered "classic cars" now and a well maintained one costs 40,000 euros!!!! So now I just want something cheap, reliable that can still take us places. Hmmmm. The search is on.
