On Friday I had ridden Rock in his new 'Bungee' he was exceptionally well behaved and worked really well concentrating hard and had his ears forward. Just seemed happy to be working! I put him back in his stable, brushed him, rugged him up, gave him his hay net and tidied away before giving him his feed. While he was eating he started acting a bit strange, it was like he really wanted to wee but wouldn't. Rocky is a bit shy about weeing while people are around but does usually go after he has been worked and a fresh bed is down so I put it down to him needed a wee but wanting me to go, so fed him and left.
My dad loves Rocky and although he can't ride he enjoys grooming him and mucking out and general other jobs where he spends time with him (lucky me!) so as I have been working this weekend my dad has sorted him out for me. I asked him to make sure Rocky has been acting normally; eating, drinking, weeing etc and behaviour wise. My dad assured me that Rocky has been fine and that he has taken the wee out everyday!
I have gone to Rocky this morning however and straight away noticed his strange behaviour again! I'll try to tell you what he does but I don't really know how to descried it! Here goes....First he lifts his tail, then shifts his weight on his back legs, then its like he cocks his leg up like a dog and a small bit of wee comes it, it really does look like a dog scent marking!
In general Rocky is completely himself, eating everything the same, drinking at least 3 quarters of his bucket morning and night as usual and behaviour wise is completely the same! The only thing I'd say that got me thinking is that he's been craving attention, Rocky has never been an overly affectionate horse and will often move away if patted or stroked for too long etc. However since Friday he hasn't left my side, picking up the brushes while in grooming, picking up my fork, resting his head on my shoulder, offering his nose for kisses, following me around the stable, even shouting me if I go to stroke another horse! Its as if he's saying 'mummy I'm poorly and need a cuddle!'
Anyway the vet is coming today at 3:30pm, I have tried to get a sample but he's reluctant and stops if I go near him. I've managed to video him doing it because it will be my luck that he doesn't do it while the vet is there. Just wondered if anyone knew of any questions I could/should ask the vet to help get more answers. Like I said Rocky in himself doesn't look poorly and he's normally a huge softy and over exaggerates everything! He bruised his foot in the field and even had the vet convinced it was an abscess! Luckily I know him and wouldn't let them start digging at his foot! So its really strange that he's acting normal when there is clearly something wrong!
Hoping to get some answers even though I haven't left anyone much time haha but will let you know what the vet says
