Christmas night we get to meet him and dear Matt Smith leaves. They are running all of last seasons now sort of a marathon thing. And then there will be a short goodbye Matt show.

Ack, my cousin gave her mother the My Little Pony Dr who. Now I've got to find one! Who knew they made that? Why didn't I have My Little Pony when I was little?........

My hubby & I were just sitting here talking about Dr. Who. Can someone explain to me why they change actors so often? It seems like it's a new doctor every few seasons? Is it planned that way or do the actors just move on?

Actors just move on, don't know why.
I was sort of disappointed. The story seemed to move slowly. I hope this new Doctor will stay longer.

He is Peter Capaldi and he is more fitting with my idea of the Doctor. My first Doctor was Jon Pertwee, then the station started over again with Hartnell and Troughton before finishing the Pertwee series; I suspect they had problems getting stuff on time.
Yea, I do know it is 2AM but Matt Smith had his usual effect of putting me to sleep on the couch - woke up at just when the shrieking wench appeared screaming DOCTOR then the regeneration started then fell asleep again and only woke up a bit ago. Guess it is time to go to bed properly........

Unbound, I think originally it was kind of accidental, show doing OK, but not flourishing, so they moved on from the role. I actually worked into the theme, so they ran with it. Time Lords are supposed to only regenerate 12 times, but I believe they have already worked in an exemption for our good Dr.

re: the change of doctors
That started with William Hartnell. The show actually had great ratings but Hartnell became ill and couldn't carry on. Rather than scrap the shoe, they decided to regenerate The Doctor and they just carried on regenerating him every few years until Tom Baker came along and he stuck with it for 7 years and Colin Baker and Sylvester McCoy had the shortest stays. The average is 4 years

That makes sense & also explains why it's been acceptable to fans to see a completely new actor in the role - we weren't aware of the "regeneration" aspect of it all. It's on our Netflix to watch list - we just haven't quite been sure which season to start with at this point...

Unbound - if you want the full picture start with Hartnell's Doctor as that will sort out the assorted aliens, but starting with Eccleston seems to be a good place as well

If you want to be confused watch the Peter Cushing Dr Who movies where they kind of change things a slight bit.
