It's been a long long while.
Well after nearly giving up on Lily - we just weren't getting anywhere and she had practically become a very indulged paddock pony, I am so pleased to say that things are on the change for us. yay!
Over the winter I had a friends horse come to stay, was a winwin situation. Lily had a paddock mate and her horse got fattened up at the fat farm. In return Lily was to go to her place over summer. Wow, I never realised how this was going to help us both. She is now grazing in a herd of five horses, which she just loves. I love watching the interaction of them all, horses are amazing. I am learning to do some natural horsemanship with her. Morag, my friend, has completed all the parelli thingmebobs and is very generously teaching me. What a change, it's only been a month but already Lily is tying up, she has always just panicked and pulled back in the past. She is so much calmer and just a wonderful horse to be around. I haven't ridden her again yet but we will this year I am sure. I popped the saddle on her the other day, she used to tense up and back up when the girth was tightened. When I did it the other day she just stood there and looked round at me. haha, I had told Morag all these bad stories and I think she is starting to think that I have made them all up. I get up to the paddock twice a week to play with her and just love being there and I think she is starting to love when I come. It's only taken 10 years, so glad I hung in there because this is just all so special. The icing on the cake the other day was when I went up there yesterday and entered the paddock. Lily came from the other side of the paddock to me. That has never happened, I just stood and waited and it was such a special moment. She lowers her head into the halter, in the past the halter has always gone on above my head. All this in a month. My heart is just bursting with love for her again.
So the mixture of being in a herd (my Tom's idea) and me earning her trust and respect and look at us now. Love her to bits.
Looking forward to catching up to everyone here.
