The Village decided to postpone trick-or-treating until Friday. Bad weather brewing for tomorrow. (Big Tee, you would die laughing.) The town's mommies are distraught! Their over-scheduled children cannot possibly go door-to-door on Friday, because they have other plans! Enter, the Children's Librarian. I was planning a small face-painting program tomorrow afternoon anyway. Just out of obligation because if you're a children's librarian you have to do something for this holiday. I didn't expect many to come. But now I am the hero! Because I announced that I WILL have the program no matter the rain, sleet or dark of night! I WILL pump it up with candy and music! I float on a sea of gratitude. But.......would someone please come help me paint faces???!!!

Start a phone tree looking for volunteers! I bet lots of people would help if they knew you needed it.

I'll play!
Just give me a corner of the library. I'll bring horned helmets, false beards, spirit gum ...
You just play the Ride of the Valkyries and open up the 'Norse' section of the shelves. I promise not to encourage boat-burning.

Pam, I started a facebook tree! Sort of. There's a Yellow Springs Area facebook group where I share program info, etc. I already put out a help wanted message. We shall see... And of course, Bara will be here with the Valkyries. And if I am organized enough I can recruit mommies on the spot: Jennifer! Would you mind just painting a snake on Lilly's left cheek? Shelly, if you would just read this ghost story to Henry and Violet. Tanya, you're so petite! Just crouch behind this draped table and clip little gifties to the hooks while Sameer and Lulu throw their lines into The Haunted Pond. Zyna, please turn the music down a couple of clicks!

Zyna? Lulu? I can live with Jennifer, Sameer - even Henry and Violet. (Are their parents Brits?)
And we know what you tall girls mean by 'petite'. You mean short. Be careful. We can snap around your ankles.
Sheesh.

The Librarian to the rescue! Have fun! Make sure Bruce has your bath drawn, complete with candles and a glass of wine for you when you get home. Something tells me you're gonna need it.

Pshew! It worked. But, Bara, you will be glad to know I had to crouch behind the makeshift pond and play the fish. However, three adorable teenagers appeared out of thin air and did all the face painting for me. I don't know who they were. Never saw them before. I think they were ghosts. I was in charge of temporary tattoos and the boom box. I told everyone to take two pieces of candy. Funny, I thought we only had 20 children, but if the candy calculus holds, we must have had 100.

Ah. Spectral teenagers and ghostly candy-thieves. Are all your libraries haunted, over there?
