Too bad but they really don't live long, usually 30-40 years. I lost some a couple of years ago and they were really old for poplars of any kind - they were over 40 years old. We lost 3 this fall by the church and they were truly old - they were pretty large when I was a kid and they just rotted through.

It's hard to lose a favorite tree.

Now I really need the guy (Jeff) to come build a cover for the deck.

Oh that's too bad. I hate it when trees are cut down, but when they're sick and close to the house...it becomes a safety issue. We had to cut down a maple tree that was in our front yard and was sick to the core. The town actually did it for us because it was a hazard to the electric / phone lines I guess? But it looked so empty without it, we planted a birch in its place.
You'll miss its shade on your deck tho...there's nothing like the shade of a big tree.

Will you plant a replacement? What trees like your climate?

Will you plant a replacement? What trees like your climate? None I live in a very dry area, we do have a lot of Oak trees but they take forever to grow up. I want to have the deck covered with a metal roof.
