I'm going Feeder next week. That is driving the tractor trailers and if I don't want to become Large Marge, I'm going to have to get on a, gasp, self motivated program. Good thing I never got in a habit of piling stuff on the exercise bike, or that would have been my first workout. That said, am hoping my new found energy from not killing myself all day at work will give me more energy to ride the ponies more. Beyond that the larger hazard is eating too much junk food for lunch. Going to have to be more motivated to make sandwiches and stuff for work. Most of what I make is pretty simple stuff. Mostly as I don't have time to get too creative. Like what I had the last couple of days. The hazards of being single. Some meals require to be repeated right away for a day or two to make the store purchases to be less wasteful, and more cost effective. Anyway, refried beans (vegetarian style, I'm not, but read the labels and the vegetarian generally has simpler ingredients). Anyway, spread refried beans on a couple of tortillas, spread some shredded sharp cheddar (don't get carried away) over. Heat in oven at 350*F for ten minutes. Top with favorite salsa (I like Newman's best medium garden) and some sour cream, add some spinach or lettuce on top. Wah! Lah! Quick easy meal. Kinda like a semi soft tostada.

My daughter and her boyfriend decided to keep it simple. Instead of dieting, they just told themselves that they have to eat 4 servings of fresh fruit and vegetables first. After that, they can eat whatever they want. Joanna has lost 10 pounds, feels better, looks great. So simple.

Joanna's is actually a pretty smart idea. That way, they're less hungry and eat less of the "whatever".
We try to eat mostly home-made soups and salads for dinner. My downfall right now is bread with cheese at tea time and Trader Joe's chocolate ice-cream-on-a-stick, which I eat in front of the TV right before bed time. Bad, bad.

Very smart! So now I'm feeling a bit guilty for having Firecracker Salmon (more tangy and sweet then hot), though it did come with rice and green beans and home made mushroom soup. I would thing my shortcomings would be the couple of beers and Bailey's for dessert. OK and the guacamole and chips I took home. See Aunt Agony for part of the reason...

I am starting by "trying" to break a few bad habits. I started drinking pop again after over 5 years of not touching the stuff. I had 1 can while at a friends house, and that was all it took, and have been drinking the stuff all summer. Now trying to get off the stuff. It's not the caffeine, or taste that I crave, but the high carbonation!!! Something about the burn of the first few sips of a cherry pepsi! So I am finding ways to replace it. I have found a really yummy tea, called Zen tea. Doesn't have the carbonation I crave, but the ulcer I have is helping with that!!! www.coffeeforless.com/tazo-zen-tea-24ct-box.html This could be my new addiction!!!

Lisa - try fizzy water..er soda water. I crave the carbonation as well and discovered that if I can't find fizzy water, I end up with a bottle of something like Pepsi or Dr Pepper.

pepsi is just soooo convenient!!! I am a little mad at myself cause I had stopped for over 5 years, and with just 1 can I was hooked!!! I was out yesterday, and I bought a bottle. I figure a 20 oz is better than a 12 pack, or more. I have tried the carbonated flavor waters, but they just don't have the same burn, but they may help my withdraw cravings. Ya know if I had not started my post out with pepsi, you would think I was talking about hard liquor, or worse!!! Goes to show you how bad that stuff really is.
I know I have said this before, but cooking for 1 sucks!!!!! I really try to eat healthy, but a sandwich is just so easy. A salad is too, but sometimes it seems harder than it should!!!

Tee, fizzy water is one of our staples. You can mix it with fruit juice for variety, and it does zing refreshingly! Look for the brands with no sodium. We like Lacroix sparkling water.

Lisa, you can buy a counter-top gadget that turns your plain water into fizzy water. I'm going to try not to drink wine at all until Christmas. I do that every so often, the most I've gone is 4 months I think. I also will try to be more active in general. Just ordered some new waterproof hiking boots for the Fall/winter trails... I find that when I'm in France I eat 3x as much as here (and I drink wine, too!) but I also walk and move (gardening etc) a lot more, and I always lose between 3 to 7 pounds while I'm there. So, my resolve is to keep that level of activity up. HA! Easier said than done...especially now that I don't have Stella to motivate me. Sniff.

I can't stand it, Claire. No Stella. That's just not right. Have you thought about another dog?
I'm thinking of getting a pedometer to track my steps each day and see if that motivates me to move more.

I am hoping (fingers crossed), that after my knee replacement in 2 weeks that it will reduce my pain enough, to allow me to be more active. I haven't been to the gym since before my RA diagnoses, but I was also doing a lot of things around the house ie building my greenhouse.

I'm thinking about gaining 100 lbs. It is about reachable goals. Right?

Totally attainable, Zen. I will give you some of my recipes/ tips to help you along, if you want!
Ann, I would love to get another dog but since it seems that we'll be gone longer and longer in the summer, it doesn't seem fair to any dog that would be left behind...*sigh*
