I am so sorry to hear about Stella. I remember some pictures you posted with her and you walking at some bay. It's always hard to go away and leave our pets behind.

Yeah, I just told the boys no emergencies while I'm gone.

Oh, that's terrible news about Stella...you've had her forever! You are the only person I KNOW who owns a Standard Poodle, and I always brag about how great they are---all based on the things you've posted about Stella. I firmly believe you should start looking for a Standard Poodle puppy right away.

Just yesterday I went into a little art supply shop in town, and there was the classiest standard poodle lounging in front of the counter. You had to step around him to get anywhere near the cash register, but it was obvious that asking him to move would have been so wrong! I have never seen such soulful eyes. I did think of Stella, of course, and wondered if she, too, had a knack for crossing her front legs so that she looked like a movie star. I imagine she did!

Stella WAS the smartest, gentlest, sweetest, absolutely best dog I've owned. She was my dog, too, followed me everywhere, and I can't tell you how empty it is around here without her. And it kills me that I didn't even get to say goodbye to her. I won't be getting another dog. It seems we'll have to go abroad for longer period of times to deal with family issues.

And very beautiful. I've only ever known one other Standard Poodle. They are so clever - and great water dogs. But then, that's what they were bred for.
I know it's too early, but I remember saying 'I'll never get another dog.' In fact, I remember my mother saying through floods of tears : "That's it. No more dogs."
I am so sorry, Claire.

I know, Bara. My parents said that, too, after they lost their dog. Isa and I promptly got them a puppy (full sister to the one they'd lost) and my mom said it's the best thing we could have done But in our case, as much as I'd love another dog, it doesn't seem fair to the dog to leave it behind for weeks at a time when we go to France... Anyway, thanks everyone for all your kind words.
