NO pictures, it POURED all day here. She needs a little TLC before I can really get to work on her. She's pretty footsore, not really sure why. Her feet are horribly long (as they always are when she gets here, farrier will be here Monday). She has thrush really bad and I think that may be the problem. There's no heat anywhere that would indicate anything ominous and also they were packed rock-hard with gravel or something. I just about had to chisel it out of there so it's possible that her soles are just bruised. At any rate, she's going to just get some time to feel better before I do a lot with her. We'll see how she fares after a few days of thrush-buster and clean soft footing. THe thrush buster definitely stung so I know the thrush is deep. She stomped and pawed for a couple minutes after I did each foot. I'd also like to see a little weight on her. She lost her foal about a month ago (they don't know why, just found her dead in the field, no trauma, etc) and Pete says she took is really hard and between pacing and not eating, she dropped quite a bit of weight. She seems to have settled down and is ok here so far. I got her a new feed from Poulin that is 14% fat/20% fiber so that should pack on the pounds without having to feed her too much.
I turned her out for a little while today with Splash. Solar has a reputation as being a bully in the field so I figured Splash was a good fit. She is not aggressive, but she also won't be pushed around. It went pretty much as I expected, Solar came trotting up, squealed, turned and tried to kick. Splash looked at her like "I'm not impressed" and that was about it. They kept to themselves after that, but Solar kept looking at Splash like she wanted to approach her, but she wasn't quite sure she should. I'll give them a few days together and then try and get the others introduced. I'd like her to learn to be in a herd situation. They always kept her by herself because they were afraid she might hurt someone. Her owners just don't realize that all the shenanigans will stop if you give them some time to work it out.
The weather is supposed to be better tomorrow. Hopefully I can get some pics.
