Fine prose. Interesting story. Meaningful insight into the history of the Southwest. Maddening male perspective!

I am tired of stories in which so many of the women characters are abused, abandoned, or inexplicably attracted to selfish, mean or weak men.

But I think this would be a great book discussion choice! Has anyone else read it?
