Inspired by a combination of Ann's 'Cranky Lady' and my CLIENTS thread!
I'll go first.
There's one episode which fills me with equal pride and shame. The only ever time I have sworn at a client!
It was the morning of the hurricane of '92. My colleague, Craig, and I had worked through the night, putting together a presentation for a client. Craig had spent most of the night driving all over the country rounding up source material etc. Bear in mind this was pre-computer, so we had to make slides and load a Kodak carousel. (Anyone remember?)
So, I was driving the finished presentation to the client, 100 miles away.
KABOOM! The hurricane hit. Road after road, there were trees crashing down, roads closed. I had no idea where I was. Actually, I was driving a soft-top, so it could have been dire.
SO. I had one of those old 'brick' car-phones (and VERY proud of it!)
Every five minutes, the client was on the phone: "I have MADE a commitment to my salesforce and you WILL deliver." I'm ashamed to say I finally snapped. "I'm flipping TRYING, Ian!" Only it wasn't 'flipping'..
Give him his due. When I did eventually get there he had heard the reports of the hurricane, seen the felled trees and the road chaos and he was contrite and humble. WHAT a night! When I pulled into the factory gates, the security guards were so concerned. "What are you doing??"
In true Pony Express mode, I said "Ian Wallace, please?"
THERE! Ian Wallace - you're outed!
