People are kind. And practical. And usually I appreciate those qualities. But I am uncomfortable with some matchmaking efforts, now that I don't have Cypress. I got a message today from someone suggesting that I might like to lease her friend's horse for two weeks. Well, I barely know that horse. And I think I'm about a foot too tall for him. And a lease for two weeks? That seems a bit formal if I'm really just being invited to pay attention to the gelding while someone is on vacation. Plus, I'm not interested. Oh, I sound ungrateful and cranky. Ordinarily, I'd just say thanks but no thanks. Maybe there's a little complicated grief reaction here. Forgive me for this small grumble.

Ann you have every right to feel how you feel! I am a little amused, cause I like to picture people as horses, and I picture you as the mare that when irritated by others you you pin your ears, and snake your neck!! If only we humans could do that, and others knew to leave us alone, before we fire our hooves at them!!!

Oh, Lisa, I work hard at repressing the impulse to pin my ears and snarl! But my daughters claim that I do, in rare instances, emit an axe murderer vibe. I don't think I've done that since they were teenagers, though.

I think that is a mother thing, brought out by teenagers. My mom said she could have killed me a few times as a teen!!!

People sometimes mean well but it doesn't feel like it. short story...after losing Eagle, Billy and Martha it seemed that people came out of the woodwork to see that my barn was full again. I appreciated it greatly but was also upset that some thought a new horse would replace my other boys.
When the time is right Ann, you will know it.

Yeah, why didn't they just say, 'Hey, I'm going to be out of town for a couple of weeks, do you want to play with my boy while I'm gone?'

Oh, I think she probably did mean well for you and her horse. I've discovered that it's best to say 'thank you, but no thank you.'

I know she means well. It's my own cranky response that troubles me. Fortunately, I have only revealed my ingratitude to the millions on ER!

Yeah, why didn't they just say, 'Hey, I'm going to be out of town for a couple of weeks, do you want to play with my boy while I'm gone?' That's my first reaction too. And I'd be fine with that offer. But a "lease" for 2 weeks? To me, that means you'd be paying to take care of their horse for 2 weeks, right? I wouldn't be interested either unless it was a really, REALLY fun / well-trained horse.
