Farrier came yesterday. Remember he is the one that drives me bonky b/c he self discloses improperly and is always talking aobut his legal messes and sex and what not.
Anyway, Paco was WAY too long as we had to reschedule twice due to weather. His right front looks the worst it has in about six months. The outside wall curls under the foot and the whole foot leans to that side and it really looks horrible (I'll have to get a pic today). Anyway, I caught Paco and while my farrier was yammering at Joe about nonsensical garbage I said
"Would you like to take a look at that foot and see how he stands and walks before I tie him?"
and he said "No." and just kept on talking to Joe about women. Am I justified that that irked me?
He also said that he was supposed to take ten of his twentyfour horses to Indiana to drop off at an auction yesterday but he ran out of time. Appears his legal battle with his exwife is draining him financially and he wants to dump the horses there so he doesn't have to feed them anymore. Said he didn't have time to try to sell them....ug ug ug......
Oh well. Did four of the horses yesterday. It was HOT out, wore shorts and a t-shirt. YEA!

Next time don't ask him if he wants too look at the hoof and see him move, tell him too. As you want to make sure everything is as it should be. After all you're not paying him to talk. I'm figuring he doesn't think it's important because you aren't going to ride Paco.
He's dumping 24 horses just like that. Divorce or not, that's sad. However, better for him to do that than stop feeding or caring for them.

What a turkey. I hope that under all that blather there's a fellow who knows how to trim a hoof. You need my farrier. He's a gem. But I don't know if he'll drive that far! Well, he sometimes goes to Rolex. I'll introduce you to him at the bonfire.

Lynne, Why don't you order Gene's new trimming video and start doing this yourself? I just bought a Hoof Jack from them to hold up the horse--now I just have to work on the hooves, not hold up the horse and work on the hooves. The new video is awesome. You can wash that farrier right out of your hair. The directions are SO easy. Linda

Thanks for the suggestion Linda. I was on their site perusing the info. on the video a few nights ago. I'd hate to use Paco as my guinea pig and it has been 14 years since my farrier classes I do think I'll order it anyway and maybe start with the others. Gotta pay my vet bill first

I hope at least he doesn't wonder why he is divorced :loon: I'd be irked big time. I'm with ZenRider. If you're not ready to trim him yourself next time, insist he do what you pay him to do. Hehe, then put on your walkman so you don't have to listen to his yabbering. :smirk:

Lynne, Don't forget, your IQ is probably 50 points higher than the guy you are hiring..... It won't take long before you know more about trimming than he does. At least you won't be paying someone to cripple your horses. The hoof jack will make a tremendous difference. It is much cheaper than physical therapy or back surgery. Linda

Did you ever watch "Third Rock From the Sun" (or see it in reruns now)? There is one episode I always get tickled at - Sally and Harry take the car in for repairs, and while she asks the questions, the mechanic just keeps turning to Harry (who knows nothing about cars) and talking to him about it. She finally just picks up one of the wrenches, applies it to his - ahem! - private parts and inquires if she has his attention now - going on to tell him that he would complete the repairs, not overcharge them for parts, and do it all in a timely fashion - did he understand? He understood! I know JUST how she felt! ;D Don't ya kind of wish you could grab his hoof nippers and do the same?
