One of my favourites (three mangled copies worth) is free for online reading. The setting Fort Abraham Lincoln. Dakota Territories, 1875-76. The book centres on a few fictional characters and the 7th US Cavalry. Main 3 characters and townspeople are fictional, most of the army personnel are real although at least one (Bierss) is a composite from anonymous diaries. The online book SEEMS to be complete although I just gave it a cursory glance because I KNOW if I start, I will be reading all day. books.google.ca/books/about/Bugles_in_the_Afternoon.html?id=B-FGJ0kqX0AC&redir_esc=ySo, let's have at it, and maybe discuss? It isn't your typical novel that covers that time period.

It seems that about half the book is not there. That just sucks

I'll look it up, though. I read 'Traveller', which was 'written' by Robert E Lee's horse.
It's the view of your Civil War from the point of view of the animals in the cavalry.
Yes, yes, I know it's 'made up'. But it has its 'Black Beauty' moments.
