It's kind of looking like we might have to hold our Exracers Rolex 2014 Reunion at a hotel. Zen informs me that it appears the campground is full already. oops. We'll keep an eye on it, but we could still have fun if we all took over a single hotel. It's still early enough to do that too. Keep in mind that renting a camper and reserving spots for 4 days at the KY horse park ends up being MORE expensive than a hotel, although much more funner!

It's the renting the camper part that makes it more expensive! For those with campers, not so much, though driving down in the Jetta would cost a whole lot less then the GMC truck with a camper. Would like to explore the primitive with electric option. Suzy, did you spot that when you were cruising around? How do those look. They may be a first come first serve thing. Wonder if it's possible to have the rentals set up on them? Guess a phone call may be in order. They do seem to be in a decent spot near the entrance, though will also have lots of people walking by during the day? Otherwise, we could try getting on the 'waiting list' for a campsite. Granted we could end up scattered all over the place, but who knows? So many questions! No matter where we gather, I'm sure we'll have fun. ;D

I can't believe the campground is fully reserved already! That can't be right? The best part about the camper thing is that 1) it's comfortable even if it rains 2) you don't have to drive and pay for parking every day 3) you are right. there. 4) you can gather around the camp fire and share stories I'd still love to do that, if we can pull it off! Does anyone have rates?

Yeah, crazy huh? Especially if so much of it was empty when SMay drove through. Though I wonder if they no longer hold the rule that something (camper, rv, or tent) needs to be left on the site to hold it? Otherwise for those annual Rolex campers, they likely set up next years reservation while they are there. Figuring losing $7.50 if they change their minds is better then not having a site? Hmm, then again here we are already looking into doing just that...
Much as staying at a hotel worked OK, must say staying at the campground, like Niaru says, has it's perks as far as parking and such goes.
Will call, they may also only allow so many reservations on the online site and others may need to be called in? Places do that.
The campground rates are: For the improved sites (water/electric): $35 a night during Rolex on Friday and Saturday. Sun through Thursday should be $30. OK, but isn't, it's $35 also Primitive with electric: $26 ($28 for the premium weekend) Primitive with no electric or water: $20 The overflow (primitive) generally doesn't run out. Most campers are self contained as long as you can live without hair driers and tv's. Though perhaps some of the rentals have generators, which would allow more flexibility when allowed to be run, as besides electricity they generate noise.

Ok, so for a Thursday through Sunday "improved site" it would be $17.5 per person if 8 people share a camper on that site. Right? How much does it cost per day to rent a 8 people camper?

Don't know the cost of renting the camper, SMay may have an idea, but the one website I checked out from a Lexington place that rents campers says they all have generators. That said, they charge $3 an hour to run them, but don't list their fees to rent the trailer. That said, it does make primitive more doable, eh? After all, most of the camper will run without the generator. The furnace will run off the batteries and propane. The refrigerator will run off propane alone. The generators are really only needed to run AC, microwaves and such, and power up the batteries if needed. Just a thought.

I can do a tent, as long as I have coffee!!! lol That being said, my mind could change after getting my knee replaced!!
Can you imagine if we had the technology we have today during the rolex 2004? No driving 100 miles to find a pizza hut, or having exracers standing alongside the road flagging down the rest of our party!!
Zen, you must invite your friend ( i forget her name)!!
