It's not a Kindle, it's the Sony version and quite old. The helpline says to plug it in. Ah. Thanks. So we know what I need to do.
Recommendations? What should I buy?

I like my iPad with the Kindle app installed. It's handy in that I can get online & do other things with it besides read. :-)

Isn't the IPad more for movies and other media apps?
I would recommend a new Kindle Fire, you do more with it.

Isn't the IPad more for movies and other media apps? I would recommend a new Kindle Fire, you do more with it. You can watch movies on the iPad (downloaded movies or Netflix), but you can do everything else on it, too. I use it to write emails, documents, etc., surf the web, play games, and read books (Kindle app & my daughter has an app for kids called Storia). My hubby has a Kindle Fire that's about a year old. He likes it but the iPad is much more versatile.

Ah yes, but the Kindle Fire is half the price! I still adore my Kindle Fire. I can read, play games, check emails, (and the Exracer Forum!) harrass my MIL with y insanely good Words With Friends play, and watch videos. Roger has an Ipad, and very rarely do I steal it from him. The only thing better about his Ipad is that he has the ability to access the internet from it without WiFi. I vote Kindle Fire!

The price is definitely better on the Fire! I just don't find it quite as handy, myself - that's a personal preference. But I do use it for so much more than just reading, and I like the bigger screen. My suggestion is - if you can get somewhere where you can handle them, go into the store & play with all the different types - there are sooo many different ones out there. That said, I don't know what types of "electronics" stores the Shetland Isles have! Good luck on the decision! No matter what you get, I'm sure you'll be glad to have your "book" back.

I have a Kindle Fire and I like it, but I only use it to buy and read books. For anything that requires serious typing I HAVE to have a real keyboard, so I use my little Lenovo Twist laptop.

Rats! I'm more confused than ever. I'm tempted by the i-pad ... but on the other paw it was Thea who got me into electronic books to start with ... Perhaps I'll stick with the cardboard versions for a bit.

Is there a Library on your island, Bara?

Yes, where's your library? If you can't find it, come visit mine. You may check out an iPad and see how you like it. Or you can try downloading a book onto my phone. I can't seem to care enough to learn how to use this Droid.

;D
There's a Shetmobile (You have to be careful with the keys when you type that!) And if you remember, I did try to start a book exchange, but the trolls threw me on a funeral pyre...
Ann, thanks, I may well turn up unannounced one day. Be afraid, be very ....

I think Amazon has a on-line app for your computer. Cloud Reader for computers look it up.

Thanks Brooks. I'm cheap - I'm trying to breathe life into my old book ... I've found the original discs - and the manual....
Don't leave me ..
