We had a little freak accident the other night :/ I was walking him out after our ride, along the wall in the indoor. I like to get off and walk him out, esp. after a good or hard working session.
So we were walking along, I was holding his reins pretty loose. This girl was lunging her horse and as her horse passed next to us, she flailed her arms up in the air to get him to move out, I suppose, which make her horse spook, which in turn made D spook a bit. Bless his heart he mostly spooked in place, but he did snatch the reins out of my hands, before I could pick them up he stepped forward and on to them, which made him jerk his head up very quickly.
His bridle snapped in half, and the force of the bit/bridle on his mouth resulted in him cutting his tongue pretty good on his own wolf tooth
He just stood there, like, holy crap, that hurt! He started bleeding out of his mouth and I immediately had horrible images flash through my head of dangling tongues
Start to finish this all took about 2-3 seconds!
Luckily it stopped bleeding pretty quickly, and its not too bad. It is about 1/4" deep but does go from top to bottom :/
I gave him some bute and put him back in his stall, wasn't sure if I should take his hay away but we figured he'd self-regulate if it hurt. but no, it didn't stop him from vacuuming up all his food.
Vet said its too small for stitches, it'll heal on its own. D's in good spirits, he does stick his tongue out and make weird faces sometimes bc I bet it it quite sore and feels strange :/
Not sure how long it will take for it to heal. I'll give him another day or two off then I have to start lunging him (no bit), perhaps riding in a halter or see if anyone has a hackamore, before he loses his mind. Our first recognized is in a month, vet said he'll heal quickly but we'll see!
I have a pic, but its kinda gross. Will post if you want to see lol.
