!'m having a bit of an argument with Greenpeace.
It's not that I disagree with anti-whaling. far from it. But the way they do it up here is far from ethical. They saw a man overboard from one of the Japanese factory ships and did nothing about it. For an hour. If you last 3 minutes in these waters you'd be lucky.
I said why don't you take your funds and help to retrain the Japanese whalers so they can still make a living for their families? Without having to go to sea in icy waters? Without you buying huge ships and helicopters?
A little lad, called Darren, said oh 'you people don't understand.' He said "Whale Wars is just a programme - entertainment.".

Unfortunately, it isn't just a programme, it pushes and glorifies terrorism. The crew of the Sea Shepherd are terrorists - they shoot people who are engaged in legitimate whaling and plain old fishing, they attempt to blow up boats and are not very nice in general regarding seafaring rules. I am not exactly in favour of whaling but it is legitimate.
Greenpeace, in general, is so far removed from its original plans that the founders have made an escape back to the real world, and one is now reviled as someone who promotes 'evil' things such as incineration of garbage and collection of the energy produced that way among other 'bad' things.

I agree, Tee. They've now fired Paul Watson off the Steve Irwin - he's the skipper who dilly-dallied and bombarded the stricken Japanese vessel who were trying to rescue their crew-member. Then radio'd them 'Can we help?' Actually, calling a ship the Steve Irwin or the Brigitte Bardot says it all. In essence, they fly a jolly roger, although they think it's very clever that the crossbones are a trident and a shepherd's crook. We know it's a skull and cross-bones. They're pirates. www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-18055030

I wonder how Steve Irwin would feel about their tactics? Green Peace started with what seems like good goals, but seems to have become more terrorist then activist.
I do also wonder at Animal Planet for televising such a show? Then again, perhaps it's like all the other reality shows and perhaps a little less reality then we are aware of?

The Sea Shepherds are not very well liked up here in Shetland... They sometimes berth in Lerwick.
We haven't had whaling here since the 1960's, but there are still some old whalers living here.
As I say, I AM anti-whaling, but these poor little rich kids have more technology than sense. It seems that Watson is now facing a murder charge in Germany!
It's easy to be idealistic when you're young.

I agree with you guys. Greenpeace has evolved into piratry (is that not a legit word?!), terrorism, violence...what a shame. I think it totally defeats their original purpose. I watched that show once, out of curiosity...won't watch again.

I have found "reality TV" is any thing but real, it's more drama then anything. I hate it.
As for Greenpeace, it sad that it has gone this way. It was at one time a good group doing good things.

These Sea Shepherd people are out and out terrorists; pirates commit acts of piracy for material gain, but these fools seem to relish shooting people and trying to sink fleets of fishing boats, be they regular fishing fleet or whaling boats. I watched exactly one episode where Watson was firing at some boat and the look on his face was horrifying; I believe he is capable of murder and from the look of unholy glee on his face on that episode, may well have enjoyed it. I believe Greenpeace is now funded in part by peta and HSUS. not positive but seem to recall hearing that somewhere.
Yep, reality TV isn't very real for the most part although a few shows are somewhat educational. That said, I love Swamp People and Ice Road Truckers

They are shooting at people now? Like you Tee, only watched a couple of episodes to realize I really didn't need to watch that show. They seemed more obstructive then violent in those, though I believe they boarded a ship in one and were captured and later released. Weird the things people watch. Big Bang Theory is about as close to reality TV I get to these days. ;D Watching Airplane now.

What? You don't watch Frasier??? (Love Sheldon!~)
As I type, the Whale Wars promo is on TV. I can't NOT watch. They're using Dylan's Masters of War. Now that's my business, producing. I could probably put together a budget of how much they spend...
Oh, before the ships, the helicopters, the travel and living expenses of the crews, oh - and the bombs,

I can't STOP watching Whale Wars. I'm totting up the donations they must receive. What couldn't we do with that money to a horse or dog charity?

Loved Frasier, and TBBT is one of my favorite TV sitcoms ever! Modern Family isn't bad either.
I hate "reality" TV.
