I had just bought Fancy and Chocolate through CANTER and I went looking for a t-shirt with an exracer theme and some info. I did a yahoo search and found Exracers.

Nairu,
I actually met Gallant Man in KY in the late 70's. He was ancient ancient ancient at that time, and I remember my sister being so exicted to see him in his lifetime. He was shaggy, not very big, and definitely had a senior attitude. He had lived a long life and died the next year. This was way before we had horses or the internet. Little did I know I was to later own a mare (Amber) who is a great grandaughter of Gallant Man. I met a lot of really great KY stallons when I was 19. Leslie was the racing nut, and I had to drive because she was only 14. It's amazing to think back on it now. She took a lot of photos, and I'll have to see if I can borrow some to post. Later she went to school at UK.
When you talk about Charm, it always reminds me so much of Amber. We definitely had a prejudice against mares before we met Amber.
I found exracers by searching for info specific to thoroughbreds off-the-track as pleasure horses after I adopted Mr Wellington. I remember being reluctant to get involved in any chat group, but every issue I researched seemed to lead back to ER. So I lurked for awhile until I just had to speak up. I remember I found SMay's web site and Teddy before I even found ER. So when I found Teddy here, I knew it had to be a safe enough place. ;D

I think I was googling something about retraining racers, and came about it. I"m a member on other forums, and the people on there are by far the nicest and most helpful. No one is judgemental or catty on here.

I also was googling info on working with OTTBs when Ex-Racers popped up. That was in 2004, when I got my first OTTB (little gray Robin).

I had too much time on my hands when I used to work 3rd shift. I had a standardbred gelding and stubled on the old exracers board one night looking for information.

I think I find it via google, shortly after I bought my first OTTB, Tango. There was another, old board, I don't know if it's still there or not. I think it originally splintered off of exracers (or the other way around perhaps?) when there were some difference of opinions. I liked exracers better so stuck around. How many do we still have here from the old board? Quite a few, I think!

Oh gosh, the old ER board. Some of us oldies really had trouble shifting over to the new format!

I was on the "Horse Forum" that Bara mentioned from about 10 years ago. I met Smay there, too. Bara had already found Ex-Racers when the "Horse Forum" shut-down. She lead me here and on her advice I joined in. I'm sure glad I come over here!!

I think it may have been slightly longer than 10 years ago, Debs! I lied!

OH wow...ummm a million years ago, when I was looking at getting an ex-racer, I was looking into SHRP's adoption program. You pay $1k and when someone had a horse to retire, they called you to see if you wanted it. I was looking for someone who had done this and that is how Christy got King, so I ended up on exracers.
I think SMay offered to give me Teddy that day if I were closer..lol.
The board looked like this then:
HELP! Pony on crack (smay)... RE:HELP!! Pony on crack (Niaru) RE: HELP!! Pony on crack (Michelle)
etc..

Oh, y'all are so silly. I kind of liked that old threaded forum because it was stream-of-consciousness posting that goes right along with my way of thinking! haha
I started out on Horsenet.com with ZenRider and Adcooper, who were then known as Eowyn and ...Adcooper, actually. Niaru I remember nabbing you from Horsenet to Agrimall.. and then to ER. Allie, I also posted on that Horsesales.com forum which was SOMEHOW linked to horsenet.... it must have morphed from a discussion board into it's own site. I had a 16-year-old TB gelding then who I was trying to re-retrain. What a joke. But then he died suddenly (aortic rupture)and two weeks later I bought Teddy out of the Sugar Creek meat pen and 9 years later here we are. Who remembers our friends Flash44, Flashy, Foxhunter, Darby, and the infamous f@t? Oh... there were others! It was fun!
